    • No-decision against former club
      Stroman came away with a no-decision in Friday's 16-5 rout of the Blue Jays, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out three.

      Advice: The veteran right-hander made his big-league with the Jays in 2014 and had trouble keeping his composure in his return to Toronto, getting the hook after 88 pitches (52 strikes) and not sticking around long enough to benefit from a season-best offensive explosion by the Yankees. Stroman completed six innings only once in five June starts, but on the year he still sports a 3.29 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 70:43 K:BB through 95.2 innings.     • Marcus Stroman yanked in fifth inning
      Marcus Stroman allowed three earned runs across 4 1/3 innings on Friday against the Blue Jays. He struck out three, walked three in a no-decision.

      Advice: Stroman labored through two very long innings against the Blue Jays. He could not put them away despite not allowing much hard contact and many long-at bats drove his pitch count up. Stroman’s strikeouts have sunk this year while he’s allowing more walks showing diminished velocity overall. His 3.29 ERA may be a bit of a mirage. Rotoworld Today, 7:37 pm
       
    • Resumes throwing program
      Manager Aaron Boone said Friday that Schmidt (lat) has resumed his throwing program, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Schmidt took the first step in his throwing program Monday when he started playing catch, per Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. Schmidt was transferred to the 60-day injured list June 18 with a right lat strain, and before the injury he was 5-3 over 11 starts with a 2.52 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 67:20 K:BB over 60.2 innings.     • Clarke Schmidt (lat) resumed playing catch
      Clarke Schmidt (lat) began playing catch on Monday as he continues to work his way back from a right lat strain.

      Advice: He’s still a long way away from being ready for game action, but it’s nice to see the 28-year-old hurler take a small step in the right direction after being shut down from throwing altogether for nearly a month. Even in the most optimistic of scenarios, it’s unlikely that we see Schmidt back with the Yankees before the start of August. Rotoworld Today, 2:24 pm
       
    • Disastrous outing in loss
      Mikolas (6-7) was hit with the loss against the Reds on Thursday, allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on 12 hits and one walk over 4.1 inning. He struck out one.

      Advice: Things got ugly in a hurry for Mikolas as the veteran gave up runs in each of the first five innings before finally being relieved by John King. The nine earned runs allowed easily marked a season high for the right-hander, as did the 12 hits he surrendered. Mikolas had gone at least six innings in six consecutive starts coming in, allowing three or fewer runs in five of those outings.     • Struggles again Thursday
      Rodon (9-5) took the loss against Toronto on Thursday, allowing eight runs on 10 hits and one walk while striking out eight batters over five innings.

      Advice: Rodon was shellshocked in the first frame, giving up five runs before recording an out. He gave up three more runs in the second, all of which came on George Springer's second three-run homer of the game. Rodon at least managed to hang on for five innings to avoid depleting the Yankees' bullpen, but the damage was more than enough to result in his third straight loss. Rodon has allowed 20 earned runs across 13.2 frames during the losing streak, catapulting his season ERA up from 2.92 to 4.42. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:33 pm
       
    • Mikolas hammered for 10 runs in loss Thursday
      Miles Mikolas allowed 10 runs (nine earned) in 4 1/3 innings and took the loss against the Reds on Thursday.



      Advice: Mikolas gave up 12 hits, walked one and struck out one. This was a disaster of a start for Mikolas. He only allowed one home run, but the Reds had a hit parade against Mikolas, who allowed a .478 BABIP in this start. Mikolas was hit hard as eight of the 12 hits went for extra bases including six doubles, a triple by Elly De La Cruz and a home run off the bat of Spencer Steer. He’s seen his ERA go from 4.59 to 5.32 in his last two starts. The 35-year-old right-hander will look to turn the page against the Pirates on the road next week.

    • Rodon hit hard again, allows eight runs in loss
      Carlos Rodon allowed eight runs in five innings and took the loss against the Blue Jays on Thursday.



      Advice: Rodon gave up 10 hits, walked one and struck out eight. That Rodon was able to complete five innings and strike out eight batters were positives, but if fantasy managers weren’t concerned about him before this start, they certainly are now. Rodon has allowed at least five runs in each of his last three starts and seen his ERA rise from 2.93 to 4.42. Rodon isn’t a big time strikeout pitcher like he was in his pre-Yankees career. His strikeout percentage is 23 percent this year compared to his 33 percent strikeout percentage with the Giants in 2022. Rodon had a 3.17 xFIP in 2021 with the White Sox and 2.91 xFIP in 2022 before his disaster 5.30 xFIP in his first year with the Yankees last year. His 4.34 xFIP this year is an improvement, but was also a sign that his ERA wasn’t going to remain below 3.00. This version of Rodon is also easier to hit as his 0.88 HR/9 in 2021 and 0.61 HR/9 in 2022 have turned into a 2.10 HR/9 in 2023 and a 1.54 HR/9 this year with the Yankees. There’s no way around the fact that Rodon’s $162 million pact with New York has become one of the biggest bust signings in the franchise’s long free agent history. The 31-year-old left-hander is set to face the Reds at home next week, but fantasy managers have to think about sending him to the bench if he wasn’t there already.

    • Struggles again Wednesday
      Gil (9-3) took the loss against the Mets on Wednesday, allowing five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two batters over 4.1 innings.

      Advice: Gil was stung by both hard hits and walks -- three of the four knocks he allowed went for extra bases, and he also surrendered four free passes. His final two walks were particularly detrimental, as both runners came around to score following his departure. Gil has now put forward two straight poor outings, giving up 12 runs over 5.2 innings across his past two starts. He had a 2.02 ERA and was being mentioned in discussions about AL Cy Young Award contenders after a June 14 win against Boston, but his subsequent struggles have increased is ERA by over a run to 3.15.
