    • Joe Musgrove lands on IL with triceps tendinitis
Padres placed RHP Joe Musgrove on the 15-day injured list with right triceps tendinitis.

Advice: Musgrove lasted just two starts before a reccurrance of the triceps issue that sent him to the injured list at the outset of May winds up putting him back on the shelf. Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune adds that Musgrove’s triceps issue “is not believed at this time to be a season-ending injury.” It certainly doesn’t sound great and fantasy managers should anticipate Musgrove requiring a lengthy absence. There should be some clarity on his status in the coming days once he undergoes some additional imaging to determine whether he’s dealing with any structural damage. Stay tuned. • Elbow issues return
The Padres placed Musgrove on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a right elbow injury, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Musgrove was originally slated to start Saturday against the Royals, but he will now return to the injured list after experiencing further issues with his right elbow/triceps. The 31-year-old was able to return from the IL after 16 days following his first encounter with elbow problems in May, but the Padres will likely bring him back slower this time around to ensure his elbow is back to 100 percent the next time he takes the mound. Randy Vasquez was recalled from Triple-A to start in Musgrove's place Saturday and will likely remain in the Padres' rotation until Musgrove is able to return. Rotowire.com 32 minutes ago

    • Scratched from start
Musgrove will not start as scheduled Saturday against the Royals.

Advice: The Padres recalled Randy Vasquez from Triple-A El Paso to start Saturday's contest, causing Musgrove's next start to be pushed back. It's unclear whether the 31-year-old is dealing with an injury or the Padres simply want to give him some extra rest, but the team should offer some clarity in the near future. • Joe Musgrove scratched from Saturday start
Joe Musgrove has been scratched from Saturday’s start against the Royals.

Advice: No word yet on the reason for the move yet. It’ll be Randy Vásquez taking the ball on Saturday afternoon in his absence against the Royals. There should be an update on his status shortly. Rotoworld Today, 10:11 am

    • Plates three runs Friday
Cronenworth went 2-for-5 with a double, a run and three RBI in an 11-8 win over Kansas City on Friday.

Advice: Cronenworth was a key part of San Diego's nine-run eighth inning, knocking in the first two runs of the frame with a single and capping the outburst with an RBI double. The pair of base knocks were much-needed for the second baseman, as he had just one hit over his previous 14 at-bats prior to the big inning. Cronenworth slashed .265/.315/.461 with four homers, 18 RBI, nine runs and a stolen base over 26 games in May. Rotowire.com Today, 9:17 am

    • Triples, drives in four
Marte went 2-for-4 with a triple, four RBI, a run scored and a walk in Friday's win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Marte ripped a bases-clearing triple in the first inning and followed it up with an RBI single in the fourth. After a 3-for-19 slump over nine games, he closed out May with three straight multi-hit performances. Marte boosted his slash line to .271/.321/.407 with nine steals, 23 RBI and 28 runs scored through 216 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 4:58 am
    • Wins with shaky outing
Severino (3-2) allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and a walk over 5.1 innings Friday, striking out four and earning a win over Arizona.

Advice: Severino got off to a rough start, coughing up three runs in the first inning. He gave up one more over the next four frames before Eugenio Suarez knocked him out of the game with a solo shot in the sixth inning. Severino still earned his first win since April 17 in the chaotic 10-9 contest. He ends May with a subpar 4.91 ERA and 23:16 K:BB through 29 frames. Severino will carry a 3.52 ERA into his next start, which is lined up to be in Washington. Rotowire.com Today, 4:52 am
    • Goes deep again
Arenado went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Phillies.

Advice: Arenado has homered in each of his last two games. The third baseman's power numbers are still way down -- he's at five homers and a .379 slugging percentage through 53 contests -- but his recent stretch could be a sign of him heating up. On the year, he's batting .257 with 26 RBI, 22 runs scored, 10 doubles and no stolen bases over 226 plate appearances. Not counting the COVID-shortened 2020 season, Arenado hasn't hit less than 26 home runs since 2014, but he needs to get going to hit that mark this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:03 pm

    • Yields run, earns save
Iglesias allowed a run in the ninth inning while picking up a save against Oakland on Friday.

Advice: Iglesias notched his 14th save of the year with a fascinating outing. He gave up a leadoff double to Zack Gelof before recording three outs on three consecutive pitches. Gelof would come in to score after two straight groundouts but Atlanta secured the 4-2 win. Iglesias has converted six straight save chances and owns a 2.53 ERA through 21.1 innings.
