      Jake Cronenworth hit a walkoff homer off Joel Payamps as the Padres edged the Brewers 7-6 on Thursday.

      Advice: Payamps couldn’t possibly have made a worse 3-2 pitch, and Cronenworth deposited the breaking ball 355 feet down the right field line for his 11th homer of the year.       Rutschman went 3-for-5 with a double, two walks and three runs scored in Thursday's 17-5 win over the Yankees.

      Advice: This was the catcher's second multi-hit effort over his last nine games, a span in which he's gone a meager 7-for-35 (.200). Rutschman started the year hot at the plate, but his struggles haven't cost him much playing time and he remains productive.     • Ryan Helsley secures MLB-leading 25th save
      Ryan Helsley fired a scoreless ninth inning on Thursday against the Giants to record his major league-leading 25th save of the season.

      Advice: Helsley was summoned to protect a narrow one-run lead at historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama and made things interesting by issuing a leadoff walk to Trenton Brooks and surrendering a two-out single to Patrick Bailey, which put the potential tying run in scoring position. He managed to wriggle out of the jam by striking out Matt Chapman to extinguish the threat. The hard-throwing 29-year-old righty has converted 25 of 26 save chances this season to go along with a sparkling 2.45 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 38/13 K/BB ratio across 33 innings (33 appearances).     • Lit up for seven runs
      Gil (9-2) was hit with the loss against the Orioles on Thursday, allowing seven runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out one over 1.1 innings.

      Advice: Gil struggled out of the gate, surrendering a leadoff double to open the contest before then eventually allowing one run in the first. However, things would get much worse for the right-hander in the following frame as he failed to retire nine of the next 10 batters he faced, leading to his shortest outing of the campaign. Gil gave up a season-high seven runs on the afternoon and failed to make it through six innings for the third-consecutive start. It also marked his first loss since April 15 against Toronto.       Luis Gil allowed seven runs in 1 1/3 innings and took the loss against the Orioles on Thursday.

      Advice: Gil gave up eight hits, walked two and struck out one. He was due to have a bad start. Gil entered the game with a .194 BABIP allowed and 83 percent left on base percentage. He had previously said he hoped to return by Saturday, so the Cardinals will continue to give him a couple of days off. Brandon Crawford will start at third base on Thursday and bat seventh.       Advice: Arenado said Wednesday that he's aiming to return to the Cardinals' lineup Saturday, so his absence from Thursday's starting nine hardly comes as a surprise.       Corbin Carroll is not in the Diamondbacks lineup on Thursday against the Nationals.

      Advice: Carroll has turned things around a bit in June, hitting .290 over 16 games with four steals and 17 runs scored. However, the power is not coming back yet. He has zero home runs in June and has just five RBI now that he has moved back up in the lineup for the Diamondbacks. You’re certainly not mad at his stats this month, but there shouldn’t be an expectation that the power will reemerge.
