    • Allows five runs in no-decision
Gray did not factor into the decision in Friday's 7-6 win against the Nationals, allowing five runs on eight hits and one walk with six strikeouts over five innings.

Advice: Gray allowed a total of five runs over the first three innings and departed after five frames with a 5-3 deficit. He surrendered eight hard hits and now carries a 5.09 ERA in road starts compared to a 1.90 mark at home . On the season, the 34-year-old owns a 3.30 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 115:24 K:BB over 92.2 innings and lines up for a home matchup against the Royals next week. Rotowire.com Today, 8:08 pm

    • Escapes with save
Doval allowed a hit and a walk in a scoreless inning Friday, striking out one and earning a save over Cleveland.

Advice: Doval put the first two batters of the inning on base but escaped the jam to close out the 4-2 win. It was his third straight save conversion and he's now 17 for 20 in opportunities this season. Doval has not looked like his usual self; his current ERA and WHIP of 4.04 and 1.54, respectively, are both career highs. Rotowire.com Today, 7:58 pm
    • Sonny Gray hit hard by Nationals
Sonny Gray allowed eight hits and five runs in five innings of work against the Nationals on Friday. He struck out six and walked one in a no-decision.

Advice: It was a very humid night in our nation’s capital and you could see the sweat pouring off Gray in his gray jersey. Clearly uncomfortable, he also could not find a way through lefties CJ Abrams, Jesse Winker, and Luis García Jr. They all tagged him for at least one extra-base hit while Winker and García had five combined hard-hit balls off Gray. He struggles with lefties relative to righties (.319 wOBA vs. L, .210 wOBA vs. R) mostly because his sweeper is less effective against opposite-handed batters. He tried to combat that with more curveballs, but it wasn’t enough. Rotoworld Today, 7:24 pm

    • Luis Robert Jr. swipes two bases in win over Fish
Luis Robert Jr. went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, drew two walks and swiped a pair of bases as the White Sox triumphed over the Marlins on Friday evening in Miami.

Advice: The 26-year-old outfielder smacked a one-out single off of Bryan Hoenig in the third inning and swiped second base, but the White Sox were unable to cash him in. He also drew a two-out walk in the sixth inning and nabbed second again before being stranded there. On the season, he’s now hitting .235/.313/.515 with 10 homers, 18 RBI and six stolen bases through his first 35 games. Rotoworld Today, 7:11 pm

    • Bryan Woo (hamstring) to make rehab start Saturday
Bryan Woo (hamsting) will make a minor league rehab start at High-A Everett on Saturday.

Advice: The Mariners are hopeful that he’ll be able to throw around 45-50 pitches in the ballgame. Woo also participated in pitcher’s fielding practice without issue on Friday. He won’t be ready to rejoin the Mariners’ rotation next week, but it sounds like he could be ready to go immediately following the All-Star break. Rotoworld Today, 3:49 pm

    • Trending toward return Monday
Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said Friday that Paddack (arm) is doing well in his rehab program and is expected to start in Monday's series opener against the White Sox, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Paddack landed on the 15-day injured list June 25 due to right forearm fatigue. It's worth noting that 2024 is the 28-year-old right-hander's first full season of pitching since undergoing Tommy John surgery in May of 2022. Paddack is 5-3 over 15 starts with a 5.29 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 70:18 K:BB over 78.1 innings this season. If he does return Monday, he'll face a White Sox team that ranks 29th this season in both batting average (.221) and OPS (.632). Rotowire.com Today, 2:34 pm

    • Dealing with glute tightness
Smith is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Rays due to glute tightness, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: It's the same injury that kept Smith off the field for four games in June, and the hope this time around is that the injury will keep him out of the lineup for just one or two games. Since June 1, the 26-year-old infielder is slashing .319/.407/.511 with four home runs, 12 RBI and an .918 OPS over 94 at-bats. Rotowire.com Today, 2:11 pm

    • Josh Smith absent from Rangers lineup on Friday
Josh Smith was held out of Rangers’ starting lineup for Friday night’s matchup against the Rays due to glute tightness.

Advice: It’s the same issue that sidelined Smith for a couple of games in June, but he’s hopeful that he won’t need to miss more than a day or two this time around. The versatile 26-year-old has been a key cog in the Rangers’ lineup this season, hitting .293/.386/.451 with seven homers, 34 RBI and four stolen bases over 308 plate appearances in his 83 games. Jonathan Ornelas will draw a start at third base in his stead and will bat ninth against Shane Baz and the Rays on Friday night. Rotoworld Today, 1:17 pm

    • Taking seat Friday
Smith is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Tampa Bay.

Advice: Smith will get a rare day off after making 13 consecutive starts. Jonathan Ornelas will bat ninth and play third base for Friday's series opener. Over his last four games, Smith is 6-for-16 with two runs and two RBI. Per Kennedi Landry of MLB.com, manager Bruce Bochy indicated that Smith felt a bit of discomfort after his last plate appearance Thursday night but didn't offer any specifics on Smith's health.
