    • Heading to bench Thursday
Cabrera is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Twins.

Advice: Cabrera has been the Yankees' preferred option at third base all season, but he's started to cede more work of late to Jon Berti, who will occupy the hot corner for the fourth time in six games Thursday. Given that he holds a 129-point advantage in OPS over Berti for the season, Cabrera should still be the favored option more often than not, but both will see their opportunities take a hit once DJ LeMahieu (foot) eventually returns from the injured list to make his 2024 debut. • Plays catch Wednesday
Jung (wrist) played catch on the field prior to Wednesday's game against the Guardians, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Playing catch amounts to Jung's first known baseball activity since he underwent surgery April 2 to address a fractured right wrist. While being able to throw with his surgically repaired wrist is a step in the right direction, hitting high-velocity pitching will be the real test for Jung. He still looks to be a week or more away from doing that, as Rangers general manager Chris Young previously said that Jung is facing an 8-to-10-week recovery timeline after more damage to his wrist than expected was detected when surgery was performed, per MLB.com. Fantasy managers shouldn't bank on Jung returning from the IL until around early-to-mid June in a best-case scenario. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 4:44 pm

    • Josh Jung (wrist) fields grounders on Tuesday
Josh Jung (wrist) fielded grounders on Tuesday.

Advice: It’s a significant step forward in Jung’s recovery process nearly six weeks out from surgery to repair a fractured right wrist. The 26-year-old slugger is expected to be sidelined until at least late May or early June, barring any setbacks. The biggest variable for fantasy managers to monitor is how his power rebounds following his return since that tends to be an issue, historically speaking, for hitters coming off wrist surgery. • Sitting against southpaw
Smith is out of the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Rockies.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Smith went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Saturday's 8-3 loss. He will begin Sunday's contest on the bench as the Rockies send out southpaw Ty Blach. Ezequiel Duran will fill in for Smith at third base. Rotowire.com Sunday, 10:19 am

    • Sitting in series finale
Cabrera is out of the lineup for Sunday's series finale against Tampa Bay.

Advice: Cabrera went 0-for-2 in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Rays and is slashing just .200/.246/.262 over his last 20 games. He finds himself on the bench for the second time in three games and could be losing hold of his regular role at third base. Jon Berti will fill in for Cabrera once again Sunday. • Idle Friday
Cabrera is out of the lineup Friday against Tampa Bay.

Advice: Cabrera will give up third base duties to Jon Berti, who will bat ninth against the Rays. In 130 plate appearances, Cabrera is slashing .256/.300/.397 with four homers and two stolen bases. Rotowire.com Friday, 12:50 pm

    • Swipes first bag
Smith went 1-for-5 with two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the A's.

Advice: After going 0-for-1 as a pinch hitter in a 9-4 loss during the matinee, Smith got the start at shortstop in the nightcap and swiped his first bag of the year in a wild 12-11 victory. The 26-year-old infielder has been productive of late, slashing .297/.422/.541 over the last 12 games with a homer, five RBI and nine runs, but his 6:14 BB:K during that stretch -- not to mention his .373 BABIP on the season -- suggests regression is coming for his batting average. Until Josh Jung (wrist) is back in the lineup though, Smith should continue to see regular playing time. Rotowire.com Thursday, 6:16 am

    • Sitting in early game Wednesday
Smith is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Athletics.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Smith will hit the bench for the first game of the twin bill while the Athletics bring southpaw JP Sears to the hill. Davis Wendzel will fill in for Smith at third base. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 11:22 am

    • Returns to Triple-A
The Brewers optioned Black to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Advice: After being called up from Nashville last Tuesday, Black got a look in a near-everyday role, starting in five of the Brewers' ensuing seven games. However, the 23-year-old managed just five hits while striking out eight times in 22 at-bats in his first taste of the big leagues, prompting the Brewers to pull the plug on him with Christian Yelich (back) returning from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Black should continue to see regular playing time at Nashville and will likely be one of the top options for a call-up if the Brewers need an extra corner infielder at any point.
