    • Daulton Varsho (back) remains out of Jays’ lineup
Daulton Varsho (back) was held out of the Blue Jays’ starting lineup once again for Wednesday’s battle against the Red Sox.

Advice: It’s the fourth straight game that the 27-year-old slugger has missed due to the lingering back issue. Eventually, the Jays are going to have to make a decision here if he isn’t ready to return, but for now they’re continuing to take things on a day-to-day basis. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

    • Remains out of action
Varsho (back) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Boston.

Advice: Varsho will be absent from the lineup for a fourth straight contest as he deals with a back injury. He is considered day-to-day. Kevin Kiermaier will make another start in center field and bat ninth for the Blue Jays on Wednesday. Rotowire.com 20 minutes ago

    • Taking seat Wednesday
Naylor is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Baltimore.

Advice: Naylor will get some rest in the series finale after he caught both of the Guardians' last two contests while going 4-for-8 with two doubles, one triple, three runs and two RBI. Austin Hedges will pick up the start behind the plate Wednesday. Rotowire.com Today, 12:43 pm

    • Takes swings in batting cage
Casas (ribs) took some swings in the batting cage Wednesday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: It was his first time hitting since he was diagnosed with a cartilage tear in his left ribcage in late April. Casas said he felt great but noted that the real test will be to see how sore he is Thursday. Previously, he had experienced lingering pain in the rib area when rotating his torso. Casas undoubtedly will require a rehab assignment before returning and it's unclear when that might occur. Rotowire.com Today, 12:36 pm

    • Triston Casas (rib) swings in cage for first time
Triston Casas, coming back from torn rib cartilage, swung in a cage without incident Wednesday.

Advice: The Red Sox haven’t talked about what Casas’s MRI showed, but the fact that he was allowed in the cage today indicates that it was good news. Casas will see how he feels tomorrow, but an early July return seems possible here. Rotoworld Today, 12:28 pm

    • Could play rehab games this weekend
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Wednesday that Nootbaar (oblique) could begin a rehab assignment as soon as this weekend, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Advice: Nootbaar hit in the batting cage Monday and then took on-field batting practice Tuesday for the first time since suffering a strained left oblique in late May. It's not clear how many rehab games he might require, but a return in early July is looking doable. Rotowire.com Today, 9:32 am

    • Buckles against Bucs
Greene (5-3) took the loss Tuesday, surrendering six runs on seven hits and two walks over four innings as the Reds fell 9-5 to the Pirates. He struck out five.

Advice: Aggressive baserunning helped Pittsburgh score three times in the first inning before adding three more in the third, and Cincy was never able to climb out of the hole. The loss was Greene's first since April 22 -- over the 10 starts in between, he'd posted a sharp 2.80 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 62:26 K:BB through 61 innings. The 24-year-old right-hander will look to regain that form in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road this weekend in St. Louis. Rotowire.com Today, 6:24 am

    • Will begin swinging this week
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Tuesday that Casas (ribs) will begin swinging a bat this week, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Casas underwent an MRI on Tuesday and is apparently ready to take the next step. He had been lightly swinging a bat but never graduated to swinging with full force. Cora said the team will reveal more details Wednesday. Casas is targeting a return for July 2, which might be too ambitious. Rotowire.com Today, 6:01 am

    • Makes impact at leadoff
India batted leadoff and went 2-for-2 with two walks, two doubles, two steals and three runs scored in Tuesday's 9-5 loss to the Pirates.

Advice: He was also hit by a pitch. India batted leadoff for a second straight game, filling in at the spot normally handled by TJ Friedl, who was added to the 10-day injured list Monday with a hamstring injury. In two games atop the order, India is 5-for-6 with three walks, four doubles, two steals and six runs scored. The two steals lifted him to eight for the season. He's hit safely in seven straight, going 13-for-25 with seven extra-base hits during the streak. Rotowire.com Today, 4:58 am
