    • Starts up hitting program
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Sunday that Yelich (back) has resumed swinging the bat in addition to running and throwing, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: The 32-year-old seemingly had a breakthrough in his recovery from a low back strain this weekend, when he had his best session in the batting cage since landing on the shelf, according to MLB.com. Yelich said that he's targeting a return to action before the Brewers' road trip wraps up Wednesday in Kansas City, but don't be surprised if the team takes a more conservative approach and gives him more time to heal up from the back injury before activating him from the 10-day injured list. • Lane Thomas (knee) takes dry swings on Friday
Lane Thomas (knee) was able to take dry swings without issue on Friday.

Advice: The 28-year-old outfielder is dealing with a sprained MCL in his left knee. It’s nice to hear that he’s already back up and swinging and it may not be long before he’s in the box against live pitching once again. The Nationals have yet to provide a potential timeline for his return. Rotoworld Friday, 2:17 pm

    • Taking dry swings
Thomas (knee) has been cleared to take dry swings, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Advice: It's been a little over a week since Thomas was diagnosed with an MCL sprain of his left knee, and he's now easing back into baseball activities. There is no timeline for the outfielder's return, but he's almost surely several weeks away. Rotowire.com Friday, 1:39 pm

    • Collects three hits Wednesday
Betts went 3-for-5 with two RBI against the Diamondbacks in Wednesday's 8-0 victory.

Advice: Betts hasn't homered over his past 17 games, but he continues to be productive, collecting seven multi-hit efforts over that stretch while slashing .406/.481/.536. The move to shortstop this season hasn't impacted the All-Star's offensive production, as Betts is leading MLB in hits (49) and OBP (.481) while tying for first in runs (29) and walks (26). Betts' 1.104 OPS also leads all major-leaguers. Rotowire.com Thursday, 10:33 am

    • Receives night off
Varsho is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals.

Advice: Varsho won't face the left-handed Cole Ragans on Tuesday as the Blue Jays trot out a lineup of eight righties and Cavan Biggio. The outfielder is 1-for-14 (.071) across his last four games but will likely slide back into the Toronto lineup Wednesday when the Jays face RHP Seth Lugo. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 12:23 pm

    • Christian Yelich (back) throws from 120 feet away
Christian Yelich (back) threw from up to 120 feet away before Monday’s game.

Advice: Yelich has also resumed throwing, and the ability to throw from a relative distance is another positive encouragement. This was initially viewed as a potential short-term stint on the injured list, but right now it seems likely that Yelich won’t be back until the early-to-mid portion of May. • Throws from 120 feet
Yelich (back) played catch from 120 feet Monday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Yelich's recovery from a lower-back strain has come along more slowly than anticipated, but he's finally beginning to ramp things up. It's been two-and-a-half weeks since he last played for the Brewers and there remains no timetable for his return to the 26-man active roster. Rotowire.com Monday, 3:09 pm

    • Christian Yelich (back) resumes swinging bat
Brewers manager Pat Murphy told reporters Sunday that Christian Yelich (back) has resumed swinging, but that his progress has “stalled.”

Advice: “I think within a week, we’ll be in a better spot,” Murphy told reporters. Yelich has been on the shelf since April 16 because of his lower back strain, and while it’s a positive development that he’s able to swing the stick, it’s less so to hear that he’s not making continued progress. The 32-year-old was expected to need just around a minimum stint on the injured list, but there’s a good chance that Yelich won’t return until the start of May at this point. • Launches two massive homers
Alvarez went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI during Saturday's 12-4 win against the Rockies.

Advice: The Houston slugger busted out of a 5-for-25 slump Saturday with two homers that each went 461 feet. Alvarez is off to a bit of a slow start in 2024 with what would be a career-worst .867 OPS, but he's still been plenty productive with seven homers, 17 RBI and 18 runs through 27 games.
