    • Kimbrel picks up 14th save Friday
      Craig Kimbrel tossed a clean ninth inning and picked up the save against the Rays on Friday.

      Advice: The save was Kimbrel’s 14th of the season and came on the heels of him taking the loss in his last appearance against the Blue Jays on Wednesday. That wasn’t a save opportunity, though.     • Struggles against Twins
      Stroman allowed five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two batters over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against Minnesota on Thursday.

      Advice: Stroman was handed a 7-2 lead through four innings but couldn't go deep enough to qualify for the victory. He allowed two doubles and a walk while also hitting a batter in the fifth frame, retiring only two batters before he was pulled. This was a big letdown for Stroman after he notched four consecutive quality starts while posting a 1.01 ERA over his previous 26.2 innings coming into Thursday.     • Paul Sewald turns in hitless inning for save
      Paul Seward pitched a hitless ninth with a one-run lead for his seventh save Thursday against the Padres.

      Advice: Sewald has been about as tough as ever since returning from an oblique strain a month ago. He has a 0.87 ERA and is 7-for-7 saving games this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:11 pm

      Advice: Sewald has three saves over four outings in June and is up to seven saves in as many chances this season. The closer has maintained excellent ratios as well with a 0.87 ERA, 0.48 WHIP and 11:2 K:BB over 10.1 innings.     • Stroman allows five in no-decision Thursday
      Marcus Stroman allowed five runs in 4 2/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Yankees’ 8-5 victory over the Twins on Thursday.

      Advice: Stroman gave up six hits, walked two and struck out two. He didn’t qualify for the win because he was unable to complete five innings. Stroman’s ERA is 3.16 on the season, but his xFIP is significantly higher at 4.48. He’s never been a big strikeout pitcher and has benefitted from an 82 percent left on base percentage this year.       Kimbrel (4-2) allowed an unearned run on two hits over one-third of an inning, taking the loss Wednesday versus the Blue Jays.

      Advice: Isiah Kiner-Falefa delivered a walk-off single in the ninth inning to hand Kimbrel his first loss since April 28. This also ended Kimbrel's scoreless streak at 7.2 innings, though he hasn't given up an earned run since May 8.     • Craig Kimbrel takes loss to Blue Jays in ninth
      Craig Kimbrel, who entered a tie game to start the bottom of the ninth, took a loss after giving up an unearned run Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

      Advice: The unearned run was his own fault, as he threw the ball away on a pickoff attempt. The runners to reach against him both did so on singles, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s game-winning hit to right would have been caught if Kyle Stowers wasn’t playing shallow to prevent the sac fly with one out. It’s obviously a bad result, but since Kimbrel’s pitching wasn’t really the problem tonight, it’s unlikely to throw the closer’s role in Baltimore into chaos again.       Sewald earned the save Tuesday against the Giants. He plunked a batter but struck out two and did not allow a hit in the ninth inning.

      Advice: Sewald was presented with a save opportunity after Mike Yastrzemski made it a three-run ballgame with his home run in the eighth. He began by hitting Thairo Estrada but faced no threat after that. He has not given up a run since his first appearance of the season and has allowed just three hits total while converting all six save chances.
