    • Zack Gelof has two hits, RBI in loss to Padres
Zack Gelof went 2-for-4 with an RBI on Wednesday in the Athletics’ loss to the Padres.

Advice: Gelof was one of the few bright spots in this one as briefly gave Oakland a lead in the late stages of the contest with an RBI double in the eighth inning off Padres reliever Jeremiah Estrada. The 24-year-old second baseman has gotten off to an ice-cold start this season, but is still chipping in the occasional homer and stolen base to salvage some semblance of fantasy relevance, despite an abysmal batting average. • Donovan Solano homers twice in Padres’ victory
Donovan Solano went 2-for-4 with two homers and three RBI on Wednesday in the Padres’ victory over the Athletics.

Advice: Solano homered off Oakland starter Hogan Harris and reliever Lucas Erceg to turn in one of the most unlikely multi-homer performances of the entire 2024 campaign. It was 36-year-old veteran journeyman’s first two-homer effort since August 4, 2019. Rotoworld 37 minutes ago

    • Moving into reserve role
Newman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.

Advice: He'll sit for the second day in a row and looks set to see a steep reduction in playing time moving forward after the Diamondbacks brought back top shortstop Geraldo Perdomo from the injured list Tuesday. Newman joined the Diamondbacks in the second week of the season following Perdomo's placement on the IL and hit .266 with two home runs and two stolen bases over 49 games. Rotowire.com 37 minutes ago

    • Brewers hopeful that Joey Ortiz can return Friday
Brewers’ manager Pat Murphy said after Wednesday’s game that he’s hopeful Joey Ortiz (hamstring) will be able to return to action on Friday.

Advice: The dynamic 25-year-old infielder was held out of action on Tuesday and Wednesday due to soreness in his right hamstring. Murphy noted that Ortiz “tested out really well” on Wednesday though and they’re hopeful that after Thursday’s off-day he’ll be ready to roll. Rotoworld Today, 4:46 pm

    • Jorge Polanco nearing rehab assignment
Jorge Polanco (hamstring) is nearing a minor league rehab assignment.

Advice: The 30-year-old infielder is in the midst of his second stint on the injured list due to a balky right hamstring. He has bene shelved since May 26 this time around, so he’s going to need at least a few games at Triple-A Tacoma before he’s ready to rejoin the Mariners. Ryan Bliss will continue to function as the team’s primary second baseman in the meantime. Rotoworld Today, 4:21 pm

    • Larger role at hot corner
Alexander is starting at third base Wednesday against the Angels, and Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said the utility infielder will see more opportunities at the position going forward, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Eugenio Suarez has worked as Arizona's everyday third baseman through the first two-plus months of the campaign, but he's struggled to a .575 OPS in 262 plate appearances. Wednesday's start is just Alexander's third at the hot corner this season, and his .279/.345/.403 slash line could be enough to seize a regular role. Lovullo wasn't clear how playing time will be split, but Suarez seems likely to still see at least fairly regular action. Rotowire.com Today, 4:06 pm

    • Retreating to bench Wednesday
Iglesias is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

Advice: Iglesias had started at second base in five of the past six games while the Mets faced a lefty-heavy schedule, but he'll retreat to the bench Wednesday even though Miami is bringing southpaw Braxton Garrett to the hill. Jeff McNeil will get the nod at second base and remains the Mets' top option at the keystone, but Iglesias should continue to play ahead of McNeil against most lefties. • Blaze Alexander to start seeing action at third
Diamondbacks’ manager Torey Lovullo told reporters on Wednesday that Blaze Alexander will start seeing action at third base.

Advice: The 25-year-old has already appeared in four games (two starts) at the hot corner this season, but with Geraldo Perdomo back to see action at shortstop and Eugenio Suarez struggling mightily offensively, it sounds like Alexander has an opportunity to carve out a real role there if he continues to hit the ball. He’ll start at third base and bat eighth against the Angels on Wednesday night. Rotoworld Today, 3:44 pm

    • Cavan Biggio starts at third base in Dodgers debut
Cavan Biggio will start at third base and bat ninth in his Dodgers’ debut against the Rangers on Wednesday evening.

Advice: It looks like Biggio could see strong-side platoon at-bats at third base — at least until Max Muncy returns from the injured list — as well as being utilized all over the diamond as a super-utility option. The 29-year-old was hitting a miserable .200/.323/.291 with a pair of homers in 131 plate appearances with the Blue Jays this season before getting designated for assignment and ultimately flipped to the Dodgers.
