      Bryson Stott is not in the Phillies’ lineup on Thursday against the Mets.

      Advice: Stott has started 39 of the team’s 44 games so far this season, so this is just a routine day off. Edmundo Sosa will start at shortstop and bat eight while Whit Merrifield will play second base. Since Trea Turner went down with an injury, Merrifield has gotten a lot more playing time, but he’s hitting just .156 in 10 games in May, so there hasn’t been much to write home about.       Angels activated INF/OF Luis Rengifo from the 10-day injured list.

      Advice: The Angels tried to keep Rengifo on the active roster, but after he missed five games, they decided to put him on the injured list last Thursday. A week later, he’s returning to the fold and should likely remain an everyday player for the Angels given how banged up their lineup is.       The Angels activated Rengifo (illness) from the 10-day injured list Thursday.

      Advice: Rengifo missed the last week and a half with a viral illness which resulted in painful blisters on his feet. He's recovered now, though, and should be back in the lineup when the Angels return to action Friday in Texas against the Rangers.       Young went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the White Sox.

      Advice: Getting another start in the leadoff spot, Young swiped his 14th bag of the season, tying him for fifth in the majors behind Elly De La Cruz (26), Jose Caballero (17), Brice Turang (16) and Bobby Witt (15). Young only has two successful steals through 12 games in May though, as his issues getting on base consistently are catching up to him -- he's slashing only .167/.295/.222 on the month. The Nationals have been shut out in back-to-back games and sit in the bottom six in runs scored and team OPS on the season, and unless Young heats up at the plate, his time at the top of the order is likely about to end.       Advice: Westburg made manager Brandon Hyde look smart -- this was Westburg's first big-league game at leadoff, and he hit a homer in his first at-bat. The infielder is 11-for-32 (.344) over his last eight games, adding six extra-base hits and seven RBI in that span. For the season, he's slashing .301/.354/.534 with seven homers, 28 RBI, 22 runs scored and five stolen bases through 159 plate appearances. Westburg may get more looks at leadoff versus southpaws, but he should be expected to bat lower in the lineup versus right-handers, as he has yet to above sixth in the order against same-handed pitchers this season.       Batting leadoff for the first time, Jordan Westburg went 2-for-5 with a homer versus the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

      Advice: Manager Brandon Hyde indicated before the game that this wasn’t a permanent move. Westburg, though, has a case for hitting high in the order regularly. He’s batting .301/.354/.534 with seven homers and five steals in 159 plate appearances. Prior to today, he had hit third once but never higher than fifth otherwise.     • Cedric Mullins gets pulled for pinch-hitter
      Cedric Mullins, who was dropped to ninth in Baltimore’s lineup, was lifted for a pinch-hitter after opening up 0-for-2 on Wednesday.

      Advice: Mullins is 0-for-16 with eight strikeouts in his last five games and 5-for-59 with a 19/4 K/BB in his last 18 games. He was off to fine start before that, but the Orioles seem to have real concerns about the way he’s performing, given that he was just held out of the starting lineup twice against righties over the weekend.
