    • Paul Goldschmidt returns to Cardinals’ lineup
Paul Goldschmidt returned to the Cardinals starting lineup for Friday night’s ballgame against the Brewers.

Advice: The Cardinals had the struggling 36-year-old slugger take the previous two games off to work on reconstructing his swing. That makes sense, as he’s slashing a putrid .195/.287/.263 with just two homers, 11 RBI, one swipe and a 47/16 K/BB ratio over 152 plate appearances to start the season. There’s nowhere to go but up, so fantasy managers will just have to hope that whatever changes he made make a difference. He’ll bat third against rookie left-hander Robert Gasser on Friday evening in Milwaukee. Rotoworld Friday, 3:57 pm
    • Back in lineup Friday
Goldschmidt is starting at first base and batting third in the lineup for Friday's game against the Brewers, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Goldschmidt was absent from the starting lineup in the team's 7-1 loss to Milwaukee on Thursday. The veteran first baseman has not registered a hit over his last six appearances, and he is slashing .195/.287/.263 with a 31.3 percent strikeout rate this season. Goldschmidt will look to get back on track against Brewers rookie southpaw Robert Gasser. Rotowire.com Friday, 2:28 pm
    • Two RBI in loss
Steer went 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI in Thursday's 5-4 loss to Arizona.

Advice: Steer delivered two runs on a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game before the Diamondbacks went ahead an inning later. He continues to produce with runners in scoring position, posting a .359 batting average and 1.022 OPS in such situations. Rotowire.com Friday, 5:44 am

    • Paul Goldschmidt getting night off on Thursday
Paul Goldschmidt is not in the lineup for Thursday’s showdown against the Brewers.

Advice: Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol is giving Goldschmidt another night off as he attempt to break out of an early-season slump at the dish. The 36-year-old veteran slugger is batting just .195 (26-for-133) with two homers, 11 RBI and one steal in 152 plate appearances over 35 contests. Rotoworld Thursday, 1:26 pm
    • Not in lineup Thursday
Goldschmidt is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Milwaukee.

Advice: Goldschmidt had been slated to sit out Wednesday versus the Mets before that game was rained out, and he is again absent from the lineup card a day later. The 36-year-old is hitless so far in six contests this month. Alec Burleson will fill in for Goldschmidt at first base Thursday. Rotowire.com Thursday, 1:23 pm
    • Nathaniel Lowe drives in three in win over A’s
Nathaniel Lowe went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs scored, and a pair of walks in the Rangers’ 12-11 win in the second game of a doubleheader against the Athletics on Wednesday.

Advice: Lowe drew a walk in the third inning and scored on a base hit by Jonah Heim. He brought two more runs in to score for Texas with a base hit in the fourth. Lowe reached again with a walk in the eighth and scored on a single by Josh Smith before adding a third RBI with a single in the ninth. The 28-year-old first baseman is slashing .328/.438/.448 with one homer, 12 runs scored, and 10 RBI across 80 plate appearances. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:19 pm
    • Isaac Paredes plates lone run in loss to White Sox
Isaac Paredes went 1-for-3 with a double and drove in the Rays’ lone run in Wednesday evening’s loss to the White Sox.

Advice: The hard-hitting 25-year-old infielder got the Rays on the board first with a run-scoring double off of Chris Flexen in the fourth inning. That would wind up being their only tally in the contest though. Paredes also drew a walk in the ballgame, reaching base safely in two of his four plate appearances. For the season, he’s now hitting .300/.387/.523 with eight homers and 20 RBI. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:07 pm

    • Absent from Wednesday's lineup
Goldschmidt is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Mets.

Advice: Goldschmidt is hitless in May and the Cardinals have discussed the possibility of giving him a few days off to clear his head and have him work on his approach at the plate. However, it's not yet clear whether his absence from the lineup Wednesday is the first of multiple days off, or just a one-off matter. Alec Burleson will handle first base in Goldschmidt's stead. • Belts eighth homer
Paredes went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the White Sox.

Advice: The 25-year-old continues to rake. Paredes has seven multi-hit performances in the last 12 games, a stretch in which he's batting .362 (17-for-47) with a 6:4 BB:K. The surge has boosted his slash line on the season to .299/.384/.520 with eight homers and 19 RBI, and with top prospect Junior Caminero tearing it up himself at Triple-A Durham (.340/.392/.681 over his last 12 games), Paredes is doing his best to ensure he won't lose his spot in the starting lineup once the Rays call up the 20-year-old phenom.
