    • Set to start Tuesday
Walston is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Giants at Chase Field.

Advice: After he was called up from Triple-A Reno on May 26, Walston made his first big-league start later that day against the Marlins, striking out four over 4.2 scoreless innings in a no-decision. Arizona had previously confirmed Walston for a start against the Mets this past weekend, but he was ultimately pushed back in the pitching schedule after the Diamondbacks elected to call up Slade Cecconi from Reno to slot into the rotation following Zac Gallen's (hamstring) placement on the 15-day injured list. Until one of Gallen, Merrill Kelly (shoulder) or Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) returns from the IL, the Diamondbacks should have back-end rotation spots available for both Walston and Cecconi. • Sidelined with forearm injury
Triple-A Salt Lake placed Wantz on its 7-day injured list April 19 with a right forearm injury, Taylor Blake Ward of TheSportingTribune.com reports.

Advice: Wantz has worked almost exclusively as a reliever at the big-league level with the Angels over the previous three seasons, but he had been working out of the rotation at Salt Lake after being optioned to Triple-A coming out of spring training. The right-hander had gotten off to a solid start to his first four starts with Salt Lake with a 4.15 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 24:8 K:BB across 17.1 innings, but the forearm injury has halted any momentum Wantz might have built toward a possible promotion to the big leagues. It's unclear when Wantz might be ready to head out on a rehab assignment with one of the Angels' lower-level affiliates. Rotowire.com 21 minutes ago

    • Report: Orioles sign right-hander Julio Teheran
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the Orioles have signed right-hander Julio Teheran to a minor-league contract.

Advice: As Heyman notes in his post, the Orioles are in need of starting pitching help, and the hope is Teheran can provide some. This is the second time he’s joined the Baltimore organization, as he also signed a minor-league contract with the O’s in February before opting out when he didn’t make the team out of spring training. The right-hander was awful in Triple-A Iowa before he opted out of his contract with the Cubs as seen in an 8.82 ERA and 1.81 WHIP oer 32 2/3 innings of work. Assuming he makes starts with Baltimore there’ll be chances for wins, but he’s not exactly someone you can count on to help in other categories. Rotoworld 27 minutes ago
    • Links up with Baltimore
Teheran agreed to a minor-league contract with the Orioles on Tuesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Advice: The veteran right-hander opted out of his minor-league deal with the Cubs over the weekend and didn't take long to latch on with a new team. Teheran has just one appearance in the big leagues this season and struggled to an 8.82 ERA over eight starts at the Triple-A level. The Orioles are in dire need of rotation depth with Tyler Wells (elbow) and John Means (elbow) both recently ruled out for the season. Rotowire.com 27 minutes ago
    • Report: Marlins to DFA Avisail Garcia
Craig Mish of Sportsgrid reports that the Marlins will designate outfielder Avisail Garcia for assignment.

Advice: That means the Marlins will ended up eating the remaining salary of his 2024 season along with $12 million in 2025 and another $5 million for his buyout in 2026. That’s assuming he goes unclaimed, of course. He isn’t going to be claimed. Garcia has been a massive disappointment since signing his four-year $52 million contract prior to 2022, and he’ll all but assuredly hit free agency after he goes unclaimed. Rotoworld 31 minutes ago
    • DFA'd by Miami
The Marlins activated Garcia (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday and designated him for assignment, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: Garcia is in the third year of a four-year, $53 million contract and the Marlins have elected to eat the nearly $24 million remaining on that deal. Slated to turn 33 next week, Garcia has managed just a .217/.260/.322 line over 153 games during his three seasons with Miami. He will clear waivers and eventually be released, at which point another team will be able to sign Garcia for the prorated veteran minimum. Rotowire.com 32 minutes ago
    • Serving as opener Tuesday
Richards will serve as the Blue Jays' opening pitcher Tuesday against the Orioles, Mike Wilner of The Toronto Star reports.

Advice: Richards has gone more than one inning in seven of his 25 relief appearances this season, including a 3.1-inning appearance last Wednesday against the White Sox. However, he hasn't thrown more than 38 pitches in any outing and will be pitching on just one day of rest after making an one-inning appearance Sunday versus Pittsburgh. The expectation is that Bowden Francis (forearm) will be activated from the 15-day injured list to work in bulk relief behind Richards. Rotowire.com 48 minutes ago

    • Getting another start Tuesday
Peterson is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Nationals in Washington, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: With a pair of off days Thursday and Friday ahead of their two-game series versus the Phillies in London this weekend, the Mets opted to condense their rotation from six to five men. Peterson ended up making the cut, as the Mets instead optioned rookie Christian Scott to Triple-A Syracuse last weekend. After returning from the 60-day injured list last week, Peterson drew a tough matchup in the Dodgers for his 2024 Mets debut, but he held his own against one of baseball's best offenses, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out three over five innings. He'll get a more favorable draw Tuesday, facing off against a Nationals offense that ranks 27th in the majors with an 81 wRC+ versus left-handed pitching for the season. • Report: Francis coming off IL to pitch Tuesday
Bowden Francis (forearm) will come off the injured list to pitch Tuesday against the Orioles.

Advice: Francis will be the “bulk” pitcher for Toronto on Tuesday with Trevor Richards getting the start as the opener against Baltimore. Francis has been on the injured list since the end of April due to tendinitis in his right forearm. The right-hander could pick up a win working in his role, but it’d be a mistake to trust him as a fantasy option Tuesday. Rotoworld 57 minutes ago
