      McLain (shoulder) is about a week away from a follow-up appointment that will give the Reds a better idea on his timetable, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

      Advice: If all goes well with his exam, McLain could start working out at the Reds' spring training facility in Arizona. He doesn't have an official return date yet. He’s been on an absolute tear with a pair of multi-homer performances in his last three contests. The 20-year-old top prospect appears to be on the precipice of returning to Tampa Bay’s lineup, likely for good, as he’s batting .333 (18-for-54) with six homers and one steal through 14 contests for Triple-A Durham.       Cardinals RHP prospect Sem Robberse struck out six and allowed one run over six innings on Thursday for Triple-A Memphis.

      Advice: Robberse boasts a sublime 1.77 ERA and 35/7 K/BB ratio across 35 2/3 innings (six starts) for Triple-A Memphis and appears to be in line to fill the vacant spot in St. Louis’ starting rotation on Tuesday against the Mets. The unheralded 22-year-old righty doesn’t throw hard, but he’s certainly done enough to at least earn a spot start for the Cardinals with Steven Matz (back) likely to end up on the injured list.       Nick Pivetta (elbow) struck out five and gave up four runs over three innings on Thursday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Worcester.

      Advice: As expected, Pivetta threw 62 pitches (36 strikes) in his rehab outing and figures to be ready to take the ball next week against the Braves, most likely on Tuesday, down at Truist Park.     • Set for bullpen session
      Cole (elbow) is expected to throw a bullpen session Saturday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

      Advice: Cole will throw off a mound for the first time since being placed on the 60-day injured list with nerve irritation and edema in his right elbow in late March. The 33-year-old is reportedly targeting a return in "mid June," according to Heyman. The right-hander is eligible to be activated from the IL on May 27, but it appears as if he will remain sidelined for awhile longer than that. With his pedigree, it comes as no surprise that the Yankees are being cautious with their ace, who produced a 2.63 ERA with a 9.6 K/9 over 209 innings in 33 starts last year.       Kyle Hendricks (back) struck out seven and allowed two runs over five innings on Thursday in a minor league rehab start for Double-A Tennessee.

      Advice: Hendricks threw 70 pitches (52 strikes) in this one and might be ready to rejoin Chicago’s starting rotation next week without another rehab outing.       The Diamondbacks transferred Kelly (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Thursday.

      Advice: Kelly was placed on the 15-day IL on April 23 after sustaining a teres major strain in his right shoulder. Due to his transfer to the 60-day IL, Kelly will be on the shelf until at least the first week of July, and his rehab progress over the next few weeks will determine whether the right-hander will need more time beyond that window.
