    • Manny Machado gets day off Monday vs. Cubs
Manny Machado is not in the lineup for Monday’s game against the Cubs.

Advice: Machado gets a rare day off after starting the last nine games for the Padres. He’ll get a breather with Donovan Solano getting the start at third while hitting sixth against Justin Steele and the Cubbies. Rotoworld Today, 2:46 pm

    • Taking seat Monday
Machado is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.

Advice: Machado will get a day off after he had started in nine straight games after returning from the paternity list April 26. Donovan Solano will step in at third base Monday in his first start with the Padres. Rotowire.com Today, 1:47 pm

    • Garrett (shoulder) whiffs 13 in rehab start
Braxton Garrett (shoulder) struck out 13 batters over 5 2/3 innings in a rehab start Monday in the Florida Complex League.

Advice: Garrett didn’t allow a run and gave up just one hit. It’s really not fair to FCL hitters they had to face a talent like the 26-year-old, but the Marlins wanted Garrett to get one more rehab start. His next outing should come at the MLB level. Rotoworld Today, 1:30 pm

    • Strikes out 13 in rehab start
Garrett (shoulder) struck out 13 batters and allowed one hit and one walk over 5.2 scoreless innings in his rehab start Monday for the Marlins' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate.

Advice: Though he was facing off against a lineup consisting mostly of teenage hitters, Garrett was dominant nonetheless in what was likely his fifth and final minor-league rehab start. Garrett, who has been on the 15-day injured list all season while recovering from a left shoulder impingement, will likely be activated this weekend to start Saturday or Sunday versus the Phillies for what will be his 2024 debut with the Marlins. • Remains on bench Monday
Soler (shoulder) is out of the lineup for Monday's game in Philadelphia, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Soler will be on the bench for a second straight game while he tends to a shoulder injury. With Soler out of the lineup, LaMonte Wade will get a day off at first base and will serve as the Giants' designated hitter. Rotowire.com Today, 10:02 am

    • Jorge Soler (shoulder) remains out on Monday
Jorge Soler (shoulder) is not in the Giants lineup on Monday against the Phillies.

Advice: It’s the second straight missed game for Soler, who is battling shoulder discomfort. It doesn’t seem like a major concern, but it is certainly something to think about for fantasy managers in weekly lineup lock leagues. Lamonte Wade Jr. will DH for the Giants on Monday with Wilmer Flores getting the start at first base against a right-handed pitcher. Tyler Fitzgerald is also playing shortstop as Nick Ahmed gets a regular day off. Rotoworld Today, 10:01 am

    • Hurt by long ball in loss
Fried (2-1) took the loss Sunday against the Dodgers, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out seven over seven innings.

Advice: Fried quickly surrendered a two-run homer to Shohei Ohtani in the opening frame. He was able to settle in thereafter, blanking the Dodgers over the next four innings before Teoscar Hernandez got a hold of one in the sixth to make it a 4-0 ballgame. Sunday was Fried's first outing this year giving up multiple home runs, but he's also gone at least six innings in three straight while striking out at least six in all three appearances. The 30-year-old owns a 4.23 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 32:14 K:BB in 38.1 innings thus far and lines up to face the Mets in his next start. Rotowire.com Today, 8:18 am

    • Getting one more rehab tune-up
Garrett (shoulder) is scheduled to cover around six innings or 75 pitches Monday in a rehab start with the Marlins' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Garrett made the fourth start of his rehab assignment this past Wednesday with Triple-A Jacksonville and looked sharp over five scoreless innings, scattering one hit and three walks while striking out three. Since he was lifted after 61 pitches, Garrett will need one more outing in the minors to get fully stretched out for starting duty before the Marlins are comfortable bringing him back from the 15-day injured list. Assuming Monday's rehab outing in rookie ball goes smoothly, Garrett should be activated this weekend and will likely slot into the rotation either Saturday or Sunday against the Phillies. • Goes deep in loss
Merrill went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 11-4 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Merrill took Ryne Nelson deep to right center in the second to open up the scoring for the Padres and later notched a single off the bat at 102.4 mph. He's now tallied a hit in each of his last three games and has five RBI over that span after going on a mini slump to end the month of April. The 21-year-old rookie has put together some solid numbers at the plate early on, slashing .284/.333/.388 with two homers, 16 RBI, 16 runs, four steals and a 9:20 BB:K in 127 plate appearances.
