Mets manager Carlos Escobar told reporters that Edwin Diaz’s role with the Mets is “fluid.”

Advice: Fluid, by definition, is not very concrete. Díaz has been horrific over the last week, as he’s seen his ERA jump up to 5.50 from the 2.13 mark he had entering the month by allowing runs in three consecutive appearances. The 30-year-old looked the part prior to these struggles and it’s worth noting he’s a hurler who missed all of 2023 thanks to a fluke injury. Díaz probably won’t be on the mound for the next save chance for the Mets, but New York is going to do everything in its power to try and get the right-hander back on track. Rotoworld 31 minutes ago

Finnegan (1-3) took the loss and blew a save against the Phillies on Saturday, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit and one walk over 1.2 innings.

Advice: Finnegan was called upon to protect a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth inning and got two outs before serving up a game-tying solo homer to Kody Clemens. The contest went into an extra frame, and after Washington failed to score in the top of the 10th, Finnegan was tagged with the loss when Bryce Harper plated the automatic runner on a sacrifice fly. The blown save was just the second for Finnegan this year, with the other coming all the way back on March 31. Diaz allowed four runs on four hits while recording just one out in Saturday's loss to the Marlins.

Advice: The Mets handed the ball to Diaz with a four-run advantage in the bottom of the ninth inning. He permitted a leadoff double and watched that run come around on a one-out single. Another single put two runners on and Josh Bell cashed in when he sent a ball 428 feet to center field for a three-run homer. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza pulled Diaz at that point. While this didn't officially go down as a blown save, it continued an ugly stretch for Diaz, who has allowed 10 runs over his last eight appearances covering 8.1 frames. When asked after the game about a potential change at closer, Mendoza didn't dismiss it, per Mike Puma of the New York Post. Diaz himself even said he'd be open to working in low-leverage spots for a while as he tries to get back on track. Héctor Neris tossed a scoreless inning with two strikeouts to fall in line for the win over the Pirates on Saturday.

Advice: Neris hasn’t had many clean outings this season. This one came at an opportune time. With the game scoreless into the ninth, he took the mound and struck out two in a perfect inning to send it to the bottom of the frame. Garrett Whitlock will undergo additional testing on Monday after experiencing soreness in his right elbow.

Advice: Ugh. The 27-year-old hurler had looked sharp in his latest minor league rehab start at Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, striking out five batters over 4 2/3 innings of shutout baseball. The plan was to have him rejoin the Red Sox’ rotation next week, but that’s obviously on hold for now.
