    • Red Sox place Tyler O’Neill (knee) on IL
Red Sox placed OF Tyler O’Neill on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 26, with right knee inflammation.

Advice: The Red Sox were hopeful that the 28-year-old slugger wouldn’t require a stint on the injured list, but they still believe that it’ll be a short stay there and he’ll be ready to return as soon as he’s eligible. Perhaps a few days off to clear his head will help his recent struggles at the dish as well. Enmanuel Valdez was recalled from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move on Wednesday. • Lands on injured list
The Red Sox placed O'Neill on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to right knee inflammation, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: O'Neill has been dealing with knee problems since leaving Sunday's game against the Brewers, and he traveled back to Boston on Tuesday to undergo imaging. The results of his tests seem to have only revealed inflammation, but his injury is still serious enough to warrant a trip to the injured list. The outfielder's move to the IL is retroactive to Sunday, so he will be eligible to return beginning June 5. Until then, Enmanuel Valdez will come up from the minors to fill the open roster spot. • Day off Wednesday
Buxton is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals.

Advice: Though Buxton played the entirety of Tuesday's 4-2 win and reached base four times while adding a steal, his knee collided with the left shin of the Royals' Vinnie Pasquantino in the third inning, when Buxton was running down the first-base line. The Twins haven't indicated that Buxton is dealing with anything more than minor wear and tear a day later, but he'll be given some rest Wednesday in any case. Minnesota will go with Willi Castro in center field against Kansas City starting pitcher Seth Lugo. Rotowire.com Today, 1:39 pm

    • Reds get TJ Friedl back from broken thumb
Reds activated OF TJ Friedl from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: It sounded like this was still at least a few days away, but the Reds are bringing Friedl back from a thumb fracture without the benefit of a rehab assignment. He’ll resume playing center field most of the time, and Jacob Hurtubise will probably head to the bench for the most part, though he might have a chance to start over Will Benson if he gets hot. • Makes return from IL
The Reds activated Friedl (thumb) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. He'll start in center field and bat leadoff in the Reds' series finale with the Cardinals.

Advice: Friedl missed just two and a half weeks with a fractured left thumb and will make his return without going on a rehab assignment beforehand. The outfielder has been limited to just six games this season due to the thumb injury as well as the fractured wrist. He should see the bulk of the action in center field for Cincinnati now that he's been cleared for game action. Rotowire.com Today, 7:45 am

    • Taking seat Wednesday
Moreno is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Rangers.

Advice: Moreno started the last two contests at catcher but will get a breather for Wednesday's afternoon game. Tucker Barnhart and Ryne Nelson will form the Diamondbacks' battery. Rotowire.com Today, 7:26 am

    • Five hits in twin bill
Freeman went 5-for-8 with a walk, a double, a home run and three RBI across both games of Tuesday's doubleheader sweep of the Mets.

Advice: The first baseman reached base three times in each contest, but most of his production came in the matinee, including a two-run shot off Jorge Lopez in the 10th inning. Freeman is heating up again, slashing .333/.381/.590 over the last 10 games with four doubles, two homers, five runs and nine RBI. Rotowire.com Today, 6:52 am

    • Swipes first bag, knocks in run
Wong went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and an RBI in Tuesday's 8-3 win over the Orioles.

Advice: Wong swiped his first bag of the season in the fifth inning then produced an insurance run with an eighth-inning single. The catcher, who batted .235 last season, continued a breakout at the dish and is batting .324 with an .836 OPS over 136 plate appearances. A .364 BABIP portends a correction is coming, but Wong is making more consistent contact and nearly halved his strikeout percentage, from 33.3 percent in 2023 to 17.6 percent in 2024. • Ryan Pressly takes fourth blown save, second loss
Ryan Pressly took his fourth blown save and second loss after giving up three runs — two earned — in the eighth inning Tuesday against the Mariners.

Advice: Pressly’s velocity is down some, but his peripherals remain strong. Nevertheless, he’s sporting a 5.31 ERA at the moment. He’s given up half as many hits (27) in 20 1/3 innings this year that he did in 65 1/3 innings last season (54). If the Astros ever do lose Josh Hader for a time, they might have to turn to Bryan Abreu over Pressly in the closer’s role. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:00 pm
