      Corbin Carroll is not in the Diamondbacks lineup on Thursday against the Nationals.

      Advice: Carroll has turned things around a bit in June, hitting .290 over 16 games with four steals and 17 runs scored. However, the power is not coming back yet. He has zero home runs in June and has just five RBI now that he has moved back up in the lineup for the Diamondbacks. You’re certainly not mad at his stats this month, but there shouldn’t be an expectation that the power will reemerge.       Finnegan struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to record his 21st save of the season in a 3-1 win over Arizona.

      Advice: The right-hander breezed through the Diamondbacks' 5-6-7 hitters on 14 pitches (11 strikes) en route to his eighth straight successful conversion. Finnegan has put together the best first half of his career with a 1.72 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 33:10 K:BB through 31.1 innings, but if the Nats fall out of the wild-card picture, he figures to become one of the team's biggest trade chips given that he has just one more year of arbitration eligibility in 2025 before reaching free agency.       Carroll is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals.

      Advice: Carroll has finally heated up at the dish in reaching base 25 times while adding four stolen bases over his last 12 contests. He'll get some rest Thursday, however, as the Nationals send tough left-hander MacKenzie Gore to the hill. Additionally, Carroll recently overcame a left side injury, so the Diamondbacks were presumably keen on giving him some maintenance. Jake McCarthy will play center field in Thursday's series finale.       Carroll batted second and went 1-for-4 with a double in Wednesday's 3-1 loss to the Nationals.

      Advice: Carroll had been dropped to the lower third of the order against left-handers a couple of weeks ago, but he was moved back to the top third Wednesday.       Cole did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's 7-6 loss to the Orioles, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk with five strikeouts over four innings.

      Advice: Cole surrendered a run on an RBI double by Ryan O'Hearn in the first inning then settled in over the next three. He allowed a single to Cedric Mullins to open the fifth and was pulled after throwing 62 pitches, but Mullins scored on a home run surrendered by Yankees reliever Ron Marinaccio. Cole maxed out at 68 pitches during his minor-league rehab, so the Yankees appear to be easing him into his return. He touched 97 mph on his fastball and generated six swinging strikes in a solid season debut and will look to build up his workload early next week against the Mets.       Gerrit Cole lasted for four-plus innings in his return to the Yankees on Wednesday against the Orioles. He struck out five, walked one, and allowed two earned runs in a loss.

      Advice: Cole was not his sharpest, understandably, in this one. The Orioles are a tough matchup and they made lots of loud contact as Cole struggled with command, especially with his knuckle curve.       Naylor went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Wednesday's 8-0 win over the Mariners.

      Advice: Naylor opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning. He then added a two-run home run in the fifth and a solo homer in the seventh. Naylor has hit safely in six of his last seven games, going 10-for-26 with three homers and seven RBI. While Naylor's current .237 average is well below last year's .308 mark, he has a .272 expected batting average and is just one homer shy of tying his career high of 20 in 2022.       Josh Naylor went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI on Wednesday.

      Advice: Naylor took over this game offensively with a run-scoring single in the first, thunderous home run to break it open in the fifth, and then a solo-shot in the seventh for good measure. He’d been batting under .200 since the start of May after a strong April and knowing how streaky of a hitter Naylor can be, this might be the start of his next hot streak.
