    • Report: Royals reached out to ask for Arraez
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports that the Royals contacted the Marlins last week to discuss trading for Luis Arraez before the infielder was dealt to the Padres

Advice: Rosenthal was quick to note that those talks “never advanced beyond the preliminary stage"; however, it’s interesting that the Royals even made the phone call because it tells us that the team is looking to capitalize on their fast start to the season which sees them just 2.5 games behind the Guardians in the AL Central. However, another interesting aspect of this is where the Royals may be looking to upgrade. Michael Massey has been pretty good at second base since coming off the IL and Vinnie Pasquantino is locked in at first base, so the Royals must have felt that Arraez could fill the DH spot, which means either Nelson Velazquez or Hunter Renfroe could be on notice in the midst of a slow start to the season. • No rehab assignment needed
Eovaldi (groin) isn't expected to require a rehab assignment prior to being activated from the 15-day injured list, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Rangers manager Bruce Bochy expressed optimism that Eovaldi, who was placed on the injured list Friday, will return when first eligible May 18. Jack Leiter is expected to be called up from Triple-A Round Rock to and fill the gap in the rotation until Eovaldi and/or Max Scherzer (back/thumb) are ready to return from the IL. • Goes yard again
Tucker went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run during Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Tucker swatted his fourth home run in his last eight games, tagging Bryce Miller for a two-run homer in the sixth frame. The left-handed-hitter is tied with Tyler O'Neill for the fifth-most home runs in baseball. During his last eight outings, Tucker has amassed six RBI and eight runs scored while going 7-for-28 (.250) at the plate. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:21 pm

    • Surrenders game-tying homer
Diaz blew the save Sunday against the Rays, allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts over one inning.

Advice: Diaz was tagged for a solo home run by Randy Arozarena in the ninth frame, his second long ball allowed in three appearances. Diaz hasn't generated a save since April 15 and is now 4-for-5 on save chances this season with an overall ERA of 2.63 through 13.2 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:12 pm
    • Dominates with 12 Ks
Skubal did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs on six hits over six innings against the Yankees. He struck out 12.

Advice: Skubal continues to dominate, as the 12 strikeouts were a season high and marked the first double-digit strikeout effort of the campaign for the ace lefty. It was the sixth time in seven games Skubal has allowed two or fewer earned runs, as the outing raised his ERA to 1.90 with a 0.77 WHIP and 53 strikeouts over 42.2 innings. He's tentatively lined up to toe the rubber next weekend when the Astros come to Detroit for a three-game set. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:12 pm
    • Edwin Díaz gives up game-tying homer in ninth
Edwin Díaz took his first blown save after giving up a homer to Randy Arozarena in the ninth inning Sunday against the Rays.

Advice: The solo shot came on a 3-2 pitch with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. It wasn’t even technically a hard-hit ball from Arozarena, leaving the bat at 94.7 mph. Díaz has now given up three homers in 13 2/3 innings, matching the total he allowed over 62 innings in 2022 (and 62 2/3 innings in 2021). Still, his stuff is gradually getting better, and he has a 21/4 K/BB. This is hardly a bad start for him in his return from knee surgery. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:31 pm
    • Tarik Skubal strikes out 12 in no-decision
Tarik Skubal pitched well in a no-decision against the Yankees on Sunday afternoon, piling up 12 strikeouts over six innings of two-run baseball.

Advice: The hard-throwing southpaw allowed six hits on the day and didn’t allow a base on balls. All of the damage done against him came in the first two innings, as Aaron Judge crushed a solo homer in the first and Oswaldo Cabrera added an RBI double in the second. Skubal generated 18 swings and misses on 96 pitches on the day — a whopping 12 of those on his changeup — while posting a ridiculous CSW of 44 percent. Skubal will carry a stellar 1.90 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and a 53/6 K/BB ratio (42 2/3 innings) into Saturday’s showdown against the Astros. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:05 pm
    • Getting rest day
Smith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta.

Advice: Unless he makes a plate appearance off the bench, Smith will put his eight-game hitting streak on hold and get a breather after he was behind the plate for each of the Dodgers' previous five contests. Austin Barnes will handle the catching duties in the series finale. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:21 pm

    • Jacob Young returns to starting lineup for Nats
Jacob Young (back) is hitting leadoff Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Advice: Young sat out Saturday after leaving Friday’s game with back spasms. The Nationals called his absence precautionary, and the fact he’s back a day later is pretty good evidence of that. Young has been excellent in 2024 with a .311 average and 12 steals in 81 plate appearances. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:41 am
