    • Matt Waldron allows two runs across seven innings
      Matt Waldron kept the Mets at bay through seven innings on Friday allowing just three hits and two earned runs. He walked two and struck out two.

      Advice: This was another solid start for Waldron without being as dominant as his last handful. His knuckleball danced through the rainy night sky in Queens and the Mets had plenty of trouble squaring it up. He’ll take a 3.66 ERA into his next start against the Phillies.     • Racks up 13 strikeouts Thursday
      Crochet allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out 13 batters over seven innings in a no-decision against Seattle on Thursday.

      Advice: Crochet was absolutely dominant in the outing, inducing 24 swinging strikes and finishing with a career-high 13 punchouts. The only run against the southpaw came via Tyler Locklear's first career homer in the fifth inning, and Crochet was in line for the victory before Michael Kopech blew a save opportunity in the ninth. Despite a few rough starts in April, Crochet has been a revelation for the White Sox and for fantasy managers this season. Over his past nine starts, he's recorded a 1.36 ERA, 0.74 WHIP and 76:11 K:BB over 53 innings. Crochet is tied with Tyler Glasnow for the major-league lead with 116 punchouts on the campaign.     • Garrett Crochet weaves gem with 13 strikeouts
      Garrett Crochet struck out 13 batters over seven innings of one-run baseball but didn’t pick up a decision Thursday against the Mariners.

      Advice: Crochet was absolutely dominant while taking advantage of a team that strikes out at an enormous rate, so the results are equally impressive and not surprising. He did allow a solo homer to Tyler Locklear, but outside of that and a Victor Robles double, it was smooth sailing for the 24-year-old. The 13 punchouts are a season-high, but this is a hurler who has already fanned 116 batters in just-under 83 innings with a 3.16 ERA.     • Logs another quality start in win
      Houck (7-5) earned the win against the Phillies on Thursday, allowing three runs on eight hits and no walks with five strikeouts over six innings.

      Advice: He tossed three scoreless innings then loaded the bases and surrendered a three-run double to Kyle Schwarber in a rough fourth. Houck rebounded with two more scoreless frames to earn his fifth straight quality start and received plenty of offensive support, as the Red Sox tagged Aaron Nola for eight runs. Houck has now allowed three or fewer earned runs in 13 of 14 starts and has been one of baseball's biggest breakouts so far in 2024. On the season, he owns a 2.08 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 89:15 K:BB in 91 innings. Houck lines up to start next week against the Blue Jays. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:40 pm
       
    • Houck gets seventh win against Phillies Thursday
      Tanner Houck allowed three runs in six innings and got the win in the Red Sox’ 9-3 victory over the Phillies on Thursday.

      Advice: Houck gave up eight hits, walked none and struck out five. The win was his seventh of the season. Houck has allowed more than three earned runs in a start only once in 14 starts this year. His ERA is now 2.08 on the season. The 27-year-old right-hander is set to face the Blue Jays on the road next week.

      Keller (8-4) was charged with the loss after he allowed four runs on eight hits with four strikeouts over six innings Thursday against the Cardinals.

      Advice: Keller's four earned runs allowed tied a season high, but he still managed to extend a streak of seven straight starts of at least six innings. He gave up a homers to Paul Goldschmidt and Brendan Donovan, making it the first time this season he's allowed multiple long balls in a game.     • Mitch Keller gives up first homers in five weeks
      Mitch Keller lost to the Cardinals after giving up four runs in six innings Thursday.

      Advice: Keller had gone five straight starts without allowing a homer and hadn’t yielded more than one in any outing this season, but both Paul Goldschmidt and Brendan Donovan left the yard against him today.       Gray (8-4) earned the win over Pittsburgh on Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk while striking out nine batters over seven innings.

      Advice: After allowing the first two batters he faced in the outing to reach base, Gray retired the next 12 hitters to step up against him. The Pirates managed a fifth-inning run on a pair of hits, but that was the only tally they were able to push across the plate. Gray finished with his first quality start since May 3 -- a span of seven appearances -- and snapped a personal two-game losing streak. The right-hander allowed seven runs across 9.2 innings during that two-game stretch, but with Wednesday's excellent outing he improved his overall season ERA to 3.01.       Sonny Gray pitched seven innings of one-run ball and struck out nine Wednesday against the Pirates.

      Advice: Coming off a down stretch that saw him post a 5.46 ERA in his previous six starts, Gray tonight turned in his first quality start since May 3. He’s now 8-4 with a 3.01 ERA overall. He’s somehow received decisions in all of his starts to date, and he’s the only pitcher qualified for the ERA title who can say that.
