    • Activated ahead of Monday's start
      Steele (hamstring) was activated from the 15-day injured list by the Cubs on Monday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

      Advice: Steele will rejoin the Cubs' rotation Monday versus the Padres after being sidelined since late March with a strained left hamstring.       Cubs activated Justin Steele off the 15-day injured list.

      Advice: Steele is off the IL and will be the starter for the Cubs on Monday against the Royals. The left-hander made one rehab start while recovering from his hamstring trouble, but he should be stretched out enough to provide fantasy value in the coming weeks. Rotoworld Today, 1:46 pm

      Gore did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing six runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks over three innings against the Blue Jays. He struck out four.

      Advice: Gore needed 76 pitches to get through three innings, with a second-inning grand slam by Vladimir Guerrero serving as the biggest blow. The silver lining for fantasy managers is that Guerrero's blast did not hurt Gore's stat line as two errors in the inning, including a fielding error by Gore, rendered each of those runs unearned. It was the shortest outing of the season for Gore, who has yet to allow more than three earned runs in any contest. He'll carry a 3.44 ERA into his next start, tentatively scheduled to take place next weekend when the Nationals travel to Fenway Park to take on the Red Sox. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:19 pm
       
    • MacKenzie Gore gives up grand slam in poor outing
      MacKenzie Gore lasted only three innings and allowed six runs — two earned — and six hits Sunday against the Blue Jays.

      Advice: It was Gore’s own error that led to all of the unearned runs. Gore’s secondary pitches weren’t working today; he got just one missed swing on his 32 non-fastballs, and it was a changeup, after three straight fastballs, that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit for a grand slam in the second.       Weathers (2-3) took the loss Friday against the Athletics, allowing three runs on five hits and no walks over six innings. He struck out five.

      Advice: Weathers collected his second quality start of the season. Most importantly, the Miami lefty exhibited better control, allowing no walks for the first time since a June 15, 2023 start against Cleveland as a member of the Padres.       Ryan Weathers gave up three runs in six innings of work to pick up a loss Friday to the Athletics.

      Advice: The southpaw gave up five hits without issuing a walk, and he struck out five. Two of the runs came on a homer from Brent Rooker, and Weathers also allowed a run-scoring single in the fifth. Not a terrible start — by definition it’s a Quality one — but not terribly impressive, either. Weathers shouldn’t be in fantasy lineups for his start against the Dodgers on Wednesday.       Nola did not factor into the decision Friday against the Giants, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks over four innings. He struck out four.

      Advice: Both of the Giants' runs came in the second inning on a Thairo Estrada double, though the damage certainly could've been a lot worse -- Nola needed 46 pitches to get through the frame, issuing four walks. The right-hander was ultimately pulled after throwing 89 pitches. Nola, who'd gone eight innings in each of his previous two starts, is 4-1 on the season with a 3.32 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 40:15 K:BB across seven outings (43.1 innings).     • Aaron Nola pulled after four versus Giants
      Aaron Nola was lifted after allowing two runs and walking four in four innings Friday against the Giants.

      Advice: A really odd start for Nola, who pretty much always lasts five innings unless he’s truly bad or hurt. Tonight, though, he walked four for the second time this season — he did that just once between 2022 and ’23 — and the Phillies didn’t think it was worth sending him back out for the fifth at 89 pitches. They were probably right, too, as the bullpen went on to allowing one run over five innings in a 4-3 win. Nola’s velocity is down, and he’s struggled to generate as many missed swings as usual. The hope is that he’ll get stronger, and he probably deserves the benefit of the doubt, given his history. Fortunately, even though his peripherals are well off, he has a 3.32 ERA through seven starts. Rotoworld Friday, 7:46 pm

      Steele (hamstring) will start Monday against the Padres as long as he gets through a bullpen session Saturday with no issues, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

      Advice: The results of Steele's lone rehab start weren't great -- he allowed three runs on six hits over 3.1 innings -- but he feels good and has put his hamstring injury in the rearview mirror, which is the most important thing. Steele threw 63 pitches in his rehab outing Wednesday, so he will be somewhat limited from a workload perspective Monday, assuming he is indeed cleared to rejoin the Cubs' rotation that day.
