    • Plays catch Wednesday
Bloss (shoulder) was spotted playing catch on the field Wednesday prior to the Astros' game against the Rockies, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The Astros had initially planned for Bloss to resume playing catch Friday, but he was able to perform the activity a little sooner than expected. He indicated that all was fine with his right shoulder following the workout, but the real test for Bloss will come once he gets back on the mound and throws at full velocity. The rookie could play catch on a few more occasions before the Astros are comfortable clearing him for bullpen sessions. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 3:20 pm

    • Moved to 60-day IL
The Angels transferred Sandoval (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

Advice: Sandoval was diagnosed with a torn UCL in his left elbow Monday and is expected to miss at least a full calendar year. He'll trade places on the 60-day IL with Chase Silseth (elbow), who was activated and optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 2:54 pm

    • Angels transfer Patrick Sandoval to 60-day IL
Angels transferred LHP Patrick Sandoval to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: Sandoval was in the midst of one of the better stretches of his career before suffering a serious left elbow injury during last Friday’s start against the Dodgers. The 27-year-old southpaw will undergo season-ending surgery in the near future and is expected to miss a significant chunk, if not all, of the 2025 campaign as well. • To resume throwing Friday
Bloss (shoulder) will play light catch Friday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Bloss was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with right shoulder inflammation following his major-league debut, but he has a shot to return shortly after those 15 days are up. Whether he returns in the majors or minors could hinge on whether Bloss beats Justin Verlander (neck) back from the IL. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 1:02 pm

    • Next rehab start to come Sunday
Anderson (elbow) threw three innings with Atlanta's Florida Complex League affiliate Monday, allowing one run on three hits while striking out three, and his next rehab start will come Sunday with a different affiliate, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Advice: The right-hander has been sitting 92-95 mph with his fastball during two appearances in the FCL, and the organization is pleased with his progress so far. "Reports are good, he feels good, all the numbers are good," manager Brian Snitker said Monday. Anderson is in the final stages of his recovery from April 2023 Tommy John surgery, but Atlanta seems likely to let him get fully built up in the minors before considering him for the big-league rotation. The team has yet to announce which level he'll be sent to for his next outing. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 7:10 am

    • Could be nearing mound work
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Monday that he's hopeful that Brown (neck) will be cleared to resume throwing off a mound at some point later this week, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Brown was placed on the 15-day injured list June 11 with a left neck strain, only for reports to surface a few days later suggesting that the right-hander might be dealing with a stress reaction. After the Cubs sought out multiple medical opinions, however, the original diagnosis of a neck strain has held up, and Brown was cleared to resume throwing last Tuesday. According to Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune, Brown played catch three times this past week and threw from 90 feet Friday, leaving Counsell optimistic that the rookie may be ready to take another meaningful step forward this week by getting back on the mound. Montemurro notes that Brown was told when he received his diagnosis that he was about one month into what's described as a "two-to-three-month burnout period" for the neck injury, though that timeline won't affect his potential return date from the IL and only relates to how long he might be physically feeling the effects of the injury. Assuming Brown is able to complete a bullpen session this week, he would still likely have a chance at completing his throwing progression and returning from the IL before the All-Star break. • Serves up three long balls in loss
Munoz (1-3) took the loss against Kansas City on Monday, allowing four runs on six hits and four walks while striking out four batters over six innings.

Advice: Munoz's command wasn't on point Monday, as he tied a season high with four free passes while serving up three home runs. It was the second straight start in which the right-hander surrendered three long balls, and he's given up multiple homers in five of his seven outings overall on the season. Munoz's horrendous 3.5 HR/9 and poor 4.5 BB/9 has led to a 7.94 FIP, which makes his 5.80 ERA seem fortunate. Rotowire.com Monday, 11:13 pm

    • Munoz gives up three home runs once again
Roddery Munoz allowed four runs in six innings and took the loss against the Royals on Monday.

Advice: Munoz gave up six hits, walked four and struck out four. It was another rough game for Munoz, who allowed six earned runs in his last start as well as three home runs. He only allowed four runs against the Royals, but gave up another three home runs as well as a double by Bobby Witt Jr. He now has a 5.80 ERA and is off the fantasy radar. The 24-year-old right-hander is set to face the Phillies on the road this weekend.

    • Diagnosed with torn UCL
Sandoval told reporters Monday that he has a high-grade flexor tear and a torn UCL in his left elbow, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: Sandoval was removed in the third inning of Friday's start against the Dodgers, and he was placed on the injured list Saturday. The injury is more severe than what was originally labelled a left elbow strain, and the 27-year-old southpaw will have to undergo surgery. Whether Sandoval undergoes an internal brace procedure or Tommy John has yet to be determined, but he will be out of action for at least a year. Prior to the injury, Sandoval was 2-8 over 16 starts with a 5.08 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 81:35 K:BB over 79.2 innings. Rotowire.com Monday, 3:14 pm
