    • Going through full workout
Burger (oblique) will go through a full on-field workout Friday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Burger is nearly two weeks removed from suffering a left intercostal strain and is finally ready to resume all baseball activities. It would appear a rehab assignment is just around the corner, with a return sometime in early- to mid-May if all goes well. Rotowire.com 2 minutes ago

    • Nick Senzel (illness) remains out of lineup Friday
Nick Senzel (illness) remained out of the Nationals’ starting lineup for Friday’s contest against the Marlins.

Advice: Senzel was scratched from Thursday’s lineup because he was feeling a bit under the weather, and he isn’t quite ready to give it a go on Friday either. The good news, is that it’s not another injury that’s keeping him sidelined. He should be considered day-to-day. Trey Lipscomb will start in his place at the hot corner and bat eighth against Anthony Maldonado and the Marlins on Friday night. Rotoworld 5 minutes ago

    • J.D. Martinez batting fifth in Mets’ debut Friday
J.D. Martinez will bat fifth and serve as the designated hitter in his Mets’ debut on Friday night against the Cardinals.

Advice: It took a bit longer than anticipated, but finally the Mets get to add the 36-year-old slugger to the middle of their lineup. He wound up playing in just two games during his time at Triple-A Syracuse, going 3-for-8 with a double. He should be rostered in all fantasy formats at this point. Remember, he slashed .271/.321/.572 with 33 homers and 103 RBI in only 113 games for the Dodgers during the 2023 campaign. Rotoworld 10 minutes ago
    • Throwing live batting practice
Pivetta (elbow) will throw a 50-pitch live batting practice session Saturday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: If Pivetta comes out the live BP session without any hiccups, he should be cleared to make a rehab start next week. That would probably set him up to rejoin the Red Sox' rotation the following week if all goes well. Pivetta has been out since early April with a right elbow flexor strain. • Could make season debut Tuesday
Grissom (hamstring) will play back-to-back full rehab games at Triple-A Worcester on Saturday and Sunday and could be activated from the injured list Tuesday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Grissom has gone 5-for-22 with two doubles and two steals so far in seven rehab games as he works his way back from a hamstring injury. As long as he comes out of Saturday's and Sunday's contests with no issues, he could be ready for his Red Sox and season debut Tuesday against the Giants. Grissom is slated to be Boston's everyday shortstop, although it's possible he'll have extra off days mixed in initially. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago

    • Masyn Winn getting a breather on Friday night
Masyn Winn is not in the Cardinals’ starting lineup for Friday evening’s tilt against the Mets.

Advice: The 22-year-old shortstop had started each of the team’s last nine games, so this looks to be just a regular day of rest for him. Winn is off to a terrific start this season, slashing a healthy .313/.385/.418 with zero homers, six RBI and four stolen bases (in five attempts) through 80 plate appearances in his first 23 games. Brandon Crawford will start in his place and bat eighth against Jose Butto and the Mets. Rotoworld 14 minutes ago
    • Requires Tommy John surgery
Miley was diagnosed with a torn UCL in his left elbow Friday and will undergo Tommy John surgery, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 37-year-old landed on the shelf with elbow swelling early in the week and had his initial MRI results come back inconclusive, but an in-person arthrogram revealed the worst-case scenario. It's a brutal development for the Brewers' rotation and Miley individually, who at this point plans to continue his career after recovering from the procedure. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago

    • Wasn't available after all
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said that Kelly (ribs) wasn't available off the bench after all on Friday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Kelly was a late scratch from the lineup after his left ribcage "locked up" on him pregame. While the team isn't overly concerned about the injury, Hinch indicated that the injured list is a possibility since the club doesn't want to play short a catcher. Jake Rogers will be the Tigers' primary backstop while Kelly recovers. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago

    • Wilyer Abreu absent from Red Sox’ lineup on Friday
Wilyer Abreu is absent from the Red Sox’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Cubs.

Advice: It looks to be just a regular day of rest with tough left-hander Shota Imanaga taking the hill for the Cubs. Abreu did remain in the lineup (and in the cleanup spot in the order) the last time that the Red Sox faced a southpaw, so hopefully this is just a regular maintenance type of thing and not a sign of things to come. Rob Refsnyder will start in his place in left field and will bat third against the Cubs on Friday night at Fenway Park. Rotoworld 21 minutes ago
