      McArthur allowed a run on two hits and struck out three without walking a batter over 1.1 innings to earn the save in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Mariners.

      Advice: McArthur gave up a solo home run to Mitch Haniger in the ninth inning, but he was able to avoid any further damage. The right-hander has surrendered seven runs (six earned) over his last five appearances, and he's been tagged for four homers in that span. He's managed to convert saves in each of his last two outings despite the long balls. McArthur is 10-for-13 in save chances this year while adding a 4.58 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 21:3 K:BB through 19.2 innings.       James McArthur gave up one run while getting the final four outs for a save Tuesday against the Mariners.

      Neris (3-0) picked up the win Sunday against the Pirates, allowing two hits and one walk over a scoreless inning. He struck out one.

      Advice: Neris took the mound in the top of the ninth during a 2-2 ballgame and fired off a scoreless inning, eventually earning the win after the Cubs put up three runs in the 10th. Since taking over closing duties from Adbert Alzolay, Neris has converted all six of his save chances and has earned a pair of wins.       Advice: McArthur was tagged for a solo home run by Willie Calhoun in the ninth inning, but the Royals' lead was never in real danger. Over 4.2 innings in May, McArthur has yielded six runs (five earned), with three of the eight hits he's allowed in that span leaving the yard. He's 9-for-12 in save opportunities while adding a hold, a 4.42 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP over 18.1 innings this season. The right-hander's shaky pitching of late hasn't cost him the closer job, but John Schreiber has been an excellent setup man and could take over if McArthur doesn't start locking things down.       James McArthur served up a solo homer in the ninth inning on Sunday, but managed to escape with a two-run lead intact to secure his ninth save of the season.

      Advice: The 27-year-old right-hander allowed a one-out solo shot to Willie Calhoun but retired each of the other three hitters that he faced — needing just 11 pitches total (eight strikes) to navigate the ninth inning. On the season, he now holds a 4.42 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and an 18/3 K/BB ratio across 18 1/3 innings while converting nine of his first 12 save chances. Despite some recent struggles, Royals’ skipper Matt Quatraro seems committed to keeping McArthur in the closer’s role, which means he’ll continue to have mixed league fantasy value.       Estevez (0-2) blew the save and took the loss Friday against Kansas City. He allowed two runs on three hits and no walks with one strikeout over one inning.

      Advice: Estevez allowed a lead-taking, two-run homer to Adam Frazier in the ninth inning to blow his third save on the year. Remarkably, the Angels closer has yet to issue a free pass this season after posting a shaky 11.0 percent walk rate in 2023, but he has allowed three homers over 11.2 innings, leading to a 6.17 ERA.     • Carlos Estévez blows save, takes loss vs. Royals
      Carlos Estévez allowed two runs in an inning of work while blowing a save Friday against the Royals and also picking up a loss.

      Advice: This is already the third blown save of the season for the right-hander. He gave up a two-run homer to Adam Frazier of all people, and that turned a 1-0 lead for the Angels into a 2-1 score and ultimately a loss. Estévez is going to get the overwhelming majority of save chances for the Angels, but he’s a middling option at best with just so-so results and a very bad baseball team to give him those chances.       Yates gave up a run on two hits and a walk while striking out one in the ninth inning during the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the A's, recording his seventh save of the season in a 12-11 win.

      Advice: It didn't seem like the Rangers would need their closer when they took a 12-7 lead into the final frame, but after Owen White gave up three straight singles to load the bases without getting an out, Yates was pressed into duty. The right-hander wound up allowing all three inherited runners to score, plus one of his own, before finally escaping the jam. It was the first run Yates had given up all season, and he sports a 0.56 ERA, 0.69 WHIP and 17:6 K:BB through 16 innings without blowing a save. Rotowire.com Thursday, 6:09 am

      McArthur picked up the save Wednesday against the Brewers after a perfect two-thirds of an inning.

      Advice: The ball was handed to Tyler Duffey for the ninth, but after Duffey walked two batters and gave up a double to Brice Turang, McArthur was forced to step in and close the door. The save snapped McArthur out of a two-game slump in which he allowed five runs (four earned) and was charged with two blown saves and two losses.
