    • Jared Jones dealing with Grade 2 lat strain
The Pirates announced Friday that Jared Jones is dealing with a Grade 2 lat strain and will be shut down from throwing for the next two weeks.

Advice: The Pirates are tying to find ways to manage the 22-year-old right-hander’s workload this season, so this doesn’t change his overall outlook for the season all that much. He’ll be re-evaluated after the two weeks to determine the schedule for ramping him back up. Fantasy managers may want to plan on being without Jones for the entire month of July. • Idle Friday
Canha is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Reds.

Advice: Canha has three hits in his last 39 at-bats and will be absent from the starting nine for the second time in three games. Gio Urshela will play first base while Matt Vierling fills the hot corner. Rotowire.com Today, 2:17 pm

    • Mark Canha not in Tigers lineup on Friday night
Mark Canha is not in the Tigers’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Reds in Cincinnati.

Advice: It’s the second time in the last three games that Canha has been excluded from the lineup, so perhaps he’s battling something minor. Gio Urshela will cover first base in his absence on Friday night and will bat seventh against Carson Spiers and the Reds. Rotoworld Today, 2:12 pm

    • Diagnosed with Grade 2 lat strain
Jones will be shut down for two weeks after being diagnosed with a Grade 2 right lat strain, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: Jones will be re-evaluated after those two weeks before the next steps of his rehab are determined. The rookie right-hander suffered the injury during his last start Wednesday against the Cardinals and was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday. Given the ramp-up that will be required after the shutdown period, it seems safe to rule Jones out for at least the remainder of July. Rotowire.com Today, 12:56 pm

    • Keeps rolling for eighth win
Ober (8-4) picked up the win Thursday against Detroit, allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits and no walks over six innings. He struck out eight.

Advice: All three runs scored by the Tigers came with two outs in the second inning after strike three to Zach McKinstry got past Ryan Jeffers and allowed McKinstry to reach first and extend the inning. Still, Ober managed to generate a fourth outing with at least eight Ks, all of which have been quality starts. Through 94 innings this year, Ober owns a 4.12 ERA and a 100:23 K:BB. He's tentatively scheduled to face the White Sox in Chicago next time out. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:12 pm

    • Aaron Civale to make Brewers debut on Friday
Aaron Civale will make his Brewers debut on Friday against the Dodgers.

Advice: It’s a tough assignment right out of the gate for Civale as he’ll take the ball for Friday’s series opener at Dodger Stadium just a few days after being dealt to Brewers from the Rays. The 29-year-old righty holds a pedestrian 5.07 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 84/27 K/BB ratio across 87 innings (17 starts) this season. His addition moves Bryse Wilson to Milwaukee’s bullpen until further notice. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:22 pm

    • Bailey Ober strikes out eight in win over Tigers
Bailey Ober worked six innings and allowed three runs — one earned — in a victory over the Tigers on Thursday.

Advice: Ober struck out eight and walked none. He has a 27/3 K/BB ratio in his last three starts and a 100/23 K/BB ratio in 94 innings for the year. The 4.12 ERA still isn’t great, but everything else is exactly what one would expect from him. He’ll face the White Sox next. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:31 pm

    • Mark Canha snaps six-game hitless streak
Mark Canha singled Thursday to snap a six-game hitless streak.

Advice: To celebrate, they’re planning fireworks for after the game. Canha is 3-for-39 in his last 12 games. His last extra-base hit came June 17, and he hasn’t homered since May 11. It’s also not like he’s any longer particularly useful on defense at age 35, and it’d seem to be worth it for the Tigers to give Parker Meadows or Spencer Torkelson another shot in his place. • Return before break not ruled out
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Thursday that Realmuto (knee) is working out at 70-to-75 percent intensity, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Advice: Realmuto is three weeks removed from right meniscus surgery and is progressing nicely. The club is not ruling out a return for their starting catcher prior to the All-Star break if he proves to be ready by then, but it's probably more likely that Realmuto is held out until the start of the second half.
