Pfaadt extended his quality start streak to four with the effort, a stretch in which he's posted a 3.24 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 24:4 K:BB through 25 innings.       Brandon Pfaadt recorded nine strikeouts and allowed one run over seven innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Reds.

      Advice: Pfaadt surrendered just two hits and a pair of walks over seven frames, trading zeroes with opposing starter Andrew Abbott into the late innings of a throwback pitcher’s duel, with a fifth-inning solo shot by utilityman Santiago Espinal accounting for the only damage against him. The 25-year-old righty generated just eight swinging strikes, but threw an impressive 61 of 93 pitches for strikes. He’ll carry a strong 4.17 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 51/10 K/BB ratio across 54 innings (nine starts) into a challenging road tilt on Tuesday against the division-rival Dodgers.       Sale (6-1) picked up the win in Tuesday's 7-0 victory over the Cubs, scattering two hits over seven scoreless innings. He struck out nine without walking a batter.

      Advice: The veteran southpaw simply overmatched Chicago's hitters, and the only runner to get into scoring position against Sale came after one of his two HBPs on the night. He generated 30 called or swinging strikes among his 92 pitches as he produced his second straight quality start and fourth of the season. Sale will take a 2.54 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and eye-popping 61:8 K:BB through 49.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Padres.       Lively (2-2) recorded the win Tuesday against Texas, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks during five innings. He struck out five.

      Advice: Lively fell victim to the warm Texas weather and the open roof at Globe Life Field, giving up solo home runs to Adolis Garcia, Corey Seager and Nathaniel Lowe. The long balls were Lively's first given up since his second start of the campaign. Lively is on pace for a career year, owning a 2.63 ERA and a 26:9 K:BB through 27.1 innings this season.     • Reid Detmers shaky again, gives up five runs
      Reid Detmers gave up five runs — four earned — in five innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Cardinals.

      Advice: Detmers is high on the short list of the game’s most frustrating pitchers. After a very encouraging open that saw him go 3-0 with a 1.19 ERA in his first four starts, he’s 0-4 with an 8.46 ERA in his last five turns. His peripherals backed up the hot start, but they also mostly back up the huge decline since. We have no clue what’s next from him, but we’d be hesitant to give up on him in mixed leagues; his stuff really does seem to be better than it was last year. Rotoworld Tuesday, 11:24 pm

      Detmers allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven over five innings in a no-decision versus the Cardinals.

      Advice: While he avoided a fifth straight loss, it was still a poor showing for Detmers. He's given up at least four earned runs in each of his last five outings while walking multiple batters in four of them. He kept the ball in the yard Tuesday, which was a positive, but it's not as encouraging as it could be since the Cardinals have been bereft of power this year. Detmers is at a 5.19 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 56:18 K:BB over 50.1 innings across nine starts in 2024. He's projected to make his next start on the road in Houston. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 10:50 pm
       
    • Ben Lively strikes out five in win over Rangers
      Ben Lively allowed five hits and three earned runs over five innings in Tuesday’s win over the Rangers.

      Advice: Lively’s three earned runs all came on solo blasts from Adolis Garcia, Corey Seager, and Nathaniel Lowe. While it wasn’t an ideal way to get through an otherwise strong outing, the veteran righty did about as well as one could hope for against a strong Rangers lineup. He ran into a bit of trouble in the fourth inning, loading the bases after a single and two walked batters, but was able to strike out Marcus Semien to end the inning.     • Chris Sale stays hot in domination of Cubs
      Chris Sale threw seven shutout innings in a 7-0 win over the Cubs, allowing just two hits and striking out nine.

      Advice: He’s now allowed just two runs over his last 25 innings. Sale’s slider carved up the Cubs all game, with a 44 percent whiff rate and 34 percent CSW on the pitch. The average exit velocity on all contact against Sale was just 81 mph as the left-hander mowed down the Cubs’ order. The effort gave him a 2.54 ERA on the year to go along with 61 strikeouts to just eight walks in 49 2/3 innings. He has been every bit the ace he was back before his injuries and there’s no reason to doubt he can keep it up as long as he can stay healthy. Rotoworld Tuesday, 6:53 pm
       
    • Complete game vs. Mets
      Nola (5-2) earned the win, allowing just four hits over nine shutout innings Tuesday against the Mets. He struck out eight.

      Advice: Nola was dominant Tuesday, holding the Mets without a baserunner until the sixth inning en route to the fourth complete-game shutout of his career. It's certainly an encouraging outing for Nola after he'd posted a subpar 5.59 ERA over his previous two starts (9.2 innings). The 30-year-old right-hander lowered his ERA to 3.10 on the season with a 1.09 WHIP and 55:15 K:BB through nine outings (58 innings).
