      Advice: Torres led off the sixth inning with a 418-foot shot to center field off Keegan Akin, cutting the Yankees' deficit to 7-2. While it didn't ultimately impact the final score, the home run was certainly a weight off of Torres' shoulders -- he'd gone 32 games without a long ball to start the campaign, a homerless streak of 53 regular-season games if you go back to Torres' last home run Sept. 7.       Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to Atlanta.

      Advice: After going 0-for-8 in the first two games of the series, Rodriguez's bat woke up against Chris Sale. The 23-year-old outfielder has only had one sustained hot streak so far in 2024, but he's capable of sparking another one at any time.       Montgomery (1-2) took the loss against the Dodgers on Wednesday, allowing six runs on six hits and three walks over three innings while striking out one.

      Advice: It wasn't Montgomery's night as the lefty got pounded for five runs in the second inning after failing to retire six batters in a row, leading to his shortest outing of the campaign. He allowed a season-high two home runs in the contest and posted just one strikeout, giving him an 8:4 K:BB through his first three starts. Montgomery produced only three swinging strikes on the night and has yet to record more than four strikeouts in an outing, despite going six or more innings on two occasions.       Lugo (5-1) picked up the win Wednesday in a 6-1 victory over the Blue Jays, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out eight.

      Advice: The 34-year-old right-hander generated an impressive 35 called or swinging strikes over 101 pitches as he baffled Toronto hitters. The quality start was Lugo's sixth in seven trips to the mound, and the two-year, $30 million contract he signed in December is looking like an absolute bargain for the Royals. Lugo will take a 1.60 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 31:11 K:BB through 45 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Brewers.       Verlander pitched seven innings in a no-decision against the Guardians on Wednesday, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two.

      Advice: Verlander allowed the leadoff man to reach in four of his seven innings of work but managed to limit the damage to only two runs, both of which came across in the top of the fifth. The veteran right-hander struggled to get ahead in the count for much of the contest and has now issued at least three walks in back-to-back starts, though he's still held opposing teams to two or fewer runs in all three outings to open the campaign.       Jordan Montgomery allowed six runs over three innings in a loss to the Dodgers on Wednesday.

      Advice: Montgomery had pitched well in his first two starts of the season, but was tagged for six runs against the Dodgers. Andy Pages got the scoring started with a two-run homer. Two doubles, a walk, and a base hit brought three more in to score before the end of the frame. Will Smith added a solo homer to lead off the third. Montgomery would complete the inning, but that would be it. The 31-year-old left-hander ends the day with a 5.63 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and an 8/4 K/BB ratio across 16 innings.       Justin Verlander allowed two runs with two strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision against the Guardians on Wednesday.

      Advice: Verlander had worked around four hits and two walks through four scoreless innings until the Guardians got to him in the fifth. Will Brennan led off the inning with a solo homer to put Cleveland on the board. A walk and triple brought one more run across before Verlander escaped the frame. He tossed two more innings for the quality start, striking out two batters. The 41-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 2.08 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and a 13/7 K/BB ratio across 17 1/3 innings.       Julio Rodríguez went 3-for-5 with a run scored on Wednesday in the Mariners’ loss to the Braves.

      Advice: Rodríguez has clearly snapped out of an early-season funk at the dish with seven multi-hit performances in his last 13 contests over the past two weeks since April 17. The 23-year-old fantasy superstar has just one round-tripper through 31 games, but he’s managed to raise his batting average back up to the .270 mark, and has also chipped in seven steals as well.
