    • Two hits, stolen base in loss
Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Alvarez recorded a base hit in the top of the fourth before coming around to score Houston's only run of the contest on an RBI single from Jake Meyers. The outfielder would add another single in his next at-bat, giving him back-to-back multi-hit games, while also going on to swipe a bag for the second game in a row. Alvarez has now posted 10 multi-hit games this month and has nine extra-base hits in the stretch. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:22 am

    • Goes yard in both ends of twin bill
Vierling went 4-for-8 with two home runs, three runs scored and five RBI across both games of Wednesday's doubleheader split with the Pirates.

Advice: Getting the start in center field in the opener and at third base in the second contest, Vierling was locked in at the plate no matter where he was stationed on the diamond. The 27-year-old crushed a three-run homer off Jared Jones in the fifth inning of an 8-0 win to kick off the twin bill, then launched a solo shot off Paul Skenes in the sixth inning of a 10-2 loss later in the afternoon. Vierling has four long balls among eight hits over his last three games, boosting his slash line on the season to .289/.320/.503 with seven homers, 22 runs and 28 RBI. • Matt Vierling homers again as Tigers drop nightcap
Matt Vierling homered for the fourth time in his last three games on Wednesday, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Tigers past the Pirates in the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader.

Advice: After belting a pair of home runs — including a walk-off — on Sunday, and crushing a three-run shot in the first game on Wednesday, Vierling tagged Paul Skenes for a 373-foot solo shot in the sixth inning of the nightcap. He finished the afternoon 1-for-4 and is now slashing an impressive .289/.320/.503 to go along with seven homers and 28 RBI on the season. Rotoworld Wednesday, 3:29 pm

    • Matt Vierling hits three-run homer in rout
Matt Vierling went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBI against the Pirates in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader.

Advice: Vierling has three homers and eight runs batted in in his last two games. His season OPS is up to .811, and especially now that Kerry Carpenter is on the IL, he should be a fixture against righties and lefties alike for at least the next couple of weeks. That makes him a decent play in mixed leagues, though it hurts that he’s become a zero in steals. Rotoworld Wednesday, 12:15 pm

    • Jackson Merrill returns to lineup after day off
Jackson Merrill is back in center field Wednesday after getting the day off against a lefty on Tuesday.

Advice: The Padres are again facing a lefty, but Merrill has been starting against most of them, even though he’s hitting just .233/.261/.233 in 46 plate appearances against them. He’s also 7-for-35 with no extra-base hits or walks in his last eight games overall. Rotoworld Wednesday, 10:25 am

    • Could play regularly sans Carpenter
Vierling will start in center field and bat second in the first game of Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: Vierling had already started five of the Tigers' previous six games at three different positions (center field, left field and third base), but he should maintain an even more stable role in the outfield for at least the next week and a half after the Tigers placed Kerry Carpenter (back) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. The 27-year-old Vierling has been one of the Tigers' top hitters in May, slashing .290/.320/.536 with three home runs, 16 RBI and eight runs on the month heading into Wednesday's twin bill. • Swipes bag in loss
Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Alvarez was just one of two Astros to have more than one hit on the evening and he recorded his second steal of the year in the sixth. Alvarez now has four multi-hit efforts in his last eight games and nine total for the month of May. For the season, the 27-year-old is slashing .269/.347/.447 with nine homers, 22 RBI, 27 runs and a 41:23 K:BB in 236 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 4:16 am

    • Fills stat sheet in win
Fry went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run, a stolen base and three total runs scored in Tuesday's 13-7 win over the Rockies.

Advice: Fry has a pair of three-hits games over his last nine contests, going 13-for-26 (.500) with four homers, three steals and 11 RBI in that span. The utility man is on another level lately, though he's been strong throughout the campaign with a .357/.492/.622 slash line, seven homers, 23 RBI, 26 runs scored and four steals over 128 plate appearances. He's started three straight games in left field, but that avenue into the lineup will close when Steven Kwan (hamstring) returns from the injured list. Fry could compete for playing time with Kyle Manzardo at designated hitter or Bo Naylor at catcher, given both of those players' struggles at the plate. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 9:59 pm

    • David Fry goes 3-for-3, hits three-run homer
David Fry went 3-for-3 and hit a three-run homer Tuesday against the Rockies.

Advice: Fry wasn’t expected to make the Guardians out of spring training and then wasn’t slated to play against righties once he did make the team, but all he’s done so far is hit .357/.492/.622 with seven homers and four steals in 128 plate appearances. The exit velocity numbers don’t back up anything close to this level of performance, but he’ll probably remain pretty solid and he has catcher eligibility. Rotoworld Tuesday, 9:49 pm
