    • Héctor Neris gives up homer, earns save anyway
Héctor Neris picked up his 10th save despite giving up a solo homer in the ninth Wednesday against the Rays.

Advice: The Cubs got Neris right back in there after he gave up four runs in taking a blown save and a loss Tuesday, and he got the job done, though not before allowing a homer for the second straight night. He’s 10-for-13 saving games in spite of his 4.21 ERA and ugly 24/19 K/BB ratio. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:14 pm

    • Battling illness
Manager Bob Melvin said after Tuesday's game that Hicks has been sick for the past several days, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: While Hicks' illness didn't prevent him from starting Tuesday, it did play a factor in his removal after just 4.2 innings and caused his velocity to be down a tick. The 27-year-old righty allowed three earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five batters, and he was hit with his third loss of the year. Assuming he's able to shake off his illness, Hicks is lined up to start again on the road Monday against the Cubs. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 9:38 pm

    • Jordan Hicks lifted in fifth versus Astros
Jordan Hicks yielded three runs in 4 2/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to the Astros.

Advice: Hicks didn’t have his usual velocity tonight, averaging 93.0 mph with his sinker. That’s down 1.9 mph from his season average and 3.2 mph from his start six days ago. Last time this happened, it was blamed on an illness, and Hicks’ velocity returned to normal his next time out. We’ll have to wait and see what the reasoning is this time. Rotoworld Tuesday, 9:26 pm

    • Grabs four-out save
Garcia struck out three without allowing a baserunner over 1.1 innings to earn the save in Tuesday's 3-0 win over the Brewers.

Advice: Garcia inherited two runners from Trevor Richards in the eighth inning, and the Brewers pulled off a double steal to get them both in scoring position. It didn't matter, as Garcia struck out Blake Perkins before pitching a clean ninth to get the four-out save. This was Garcia's fifth save of the year, three of which have come in June while Jordan Romano (elbow) has been on the injured list. Garcia has added nine holds and one blown save while pitching to a 1.98 ERA, 0.66 WHIP and 37:7 K:BB through 27.1 innings this season. As long as Romano is out, Garcia appears to be the top option for saves in the Toronto bullpen. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 8:15 pm

    • Yimi Garcia earns fifth save of season vs. Brewers
Yimi Garcia pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings, earning the save in Tuesday’s win over the Brewers.

Advice: Garcia was solid in this one, striking out three of his four batters faced while earning a four-out save to secure the shutout over the Brewers. It was a far better outing than he saw in his last save opportunity when he gave up two runs last week against the Orioles despite still earning the save. Garcia is boasting a solid 1.98 ERA and 0.66 WHIP on the year, and could be close to earning a role as the Jays’ permanent closer while Jordan Romano (elbow) remains away. • Héctor Neris implodes in loss to Rays on Tuesday
Héctor Neris blew a save on Tuesday, allowing four runs on three hits in a loss to the Rays.

Advice: Neris had seemed to be turning the corner early in the month, but tonight was rough. He started the inning with a lead-off double and then after a strikeout, he issued a walk and a run-scoring single. He was able to strike out Yandy Diaz to get himself one out away from sending the game to extra innings but instead served up a three-run home run to Brandon Lowe to lose the game. He has a 4.01 ERA on the season and is not a sure thing to remain the Cubs’ closer through the summer. Rotoworld Tuesday, 7:24 pm

    • Blanks Atlanta
Suarez (3-0) earned the win Tuesday against Atlanta, allowing four hits and three walks over 5.1 scoreless innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Suarez continues to impress as a starter in Baltimore -- he's made four straight starts, allowing just three runs over 19.1 innings. The 34-year-old Suarez, who last pitched in 2017 prior to this season, now has a 1.61 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP and 37:14 K:BB across 44.2 innings. Suarez figures to stick in the rotation until Dean Kremer (triceps) is able to return. He's currently lined up for a road matchup with the Yankees in his next start. • Takes first loss in rough outing
Neris (6-1) allowed four runs on three hits while retiring just two batters to take the loss Tuesday against the Rays. He walked one and struck out two.

Advice: Neris was tasked with protecting a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the ninth, but he allowed a double and a single to blow his third save of the year. He still had a chance to push the contest into extra innings until he served up a three-run home run to Brandon Lowe with two outs, which gave Tampa Bay the 5-2 win. It marked the first loss of the season for the veteran reliever, who saw his ERA climb from 2.63 to 4.01 in the process. This was also only the second long ball served up by Neris this year across 24.2 innings. While this effort hurts his overall stat line, Neris should have a little leeway as Chicago's closer given his solid play to this point. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 6:46 pm

    • Albert Suárez tosses 5 1/3 scoreless to beat Braves
Albert Suárez struck out four over 5 1/3 scoreless innings on Tuesday in a win over the Braves.

Advice: Suarez was lifted from the contest after giving up back-ti-back one-out singles to open the sixth inning, but reliever Jacob Webb was able to put out the fire and preserve the shutout. He managed to scatter four hits and three walks in his longest scoreless outing since his season debut back on April 22 against the Angels. The 34-year-old journeyman has been an unexpected revelation this season for the Orioles and will bring a pristine 1.61 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 37/14 K/BB ratio across 44 2/3 innings (14 appearances, seven starts) into a challenging road matchup next Tuesday against the Yankees.
