    • Bailey Falter lit up for five runs against Dodgers
Bailey Falter was torched for five runs over four innings on Thursday in a loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Falter ran into a buzzsaw in the opening frame as Los Angeles’ star-studded lineup tagged him for four runs on five hits, with a three-run homer by Freddie Freeman accounting for the majority of the damage. He struck out six and also issued a pair of walks. The blowup outing snapped a streak of six consecutive starts in which he had allowed three earned runs or fewer dating back to May 5. He’ll aim for better results on Wednesday when he faces the division-rival Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Rotoworld Thursday, 6:51 pm
    • Masyn Winn returns to lineup Thursday vs. Rockies
Masyn Winn (back) is in the lineup for Thursday’s series opener against the Rockies.

Advice: Winn took a seat for Wednesday’s game against the Astros to address a lingering back issue, so it’s a positive development that he’s ready to roll for Thursday’s series opener against the Rockies at Busch Stadium. The 22-year-old shortstop has been excellent this season, taking a major step forward at the dish, batting .309 with three homers and eight steals across 197 plate appearances over 54 games. • Returns to lineup Thursday
Winn (back) will play shortstop and bat leadoff in Thursday's game versus the Rockies.

Advice: Winn was absent from the Cardinals' lineup Wednesday in Houston as he battles a nagging back issue. It's something he's been managing off and on all season but hasn't seemed to affect him lately, as the rookie shortstop is slashing .370/.400/.575 over his last 20 contests. • Exits starting nine
Joe is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Dodgers.

Advice: It's the first time since May 13 that Joe has been absent from the Pirates' starting nine. Rowdy Tellez will occupy first base and Edward Olivares will patrol right field while Joe gets some rest. Rotowire.com Thursday, 11:34 am

    • Set to catch on consecutive days
Alvarez (thumb) will be behind the plate for Triple-A Syracuse on both Friday and Saturday before serving as the designated hitter Sunday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The young catcher is on track to return from a fractured left thumb early next week when the Mets return from London, but the organization will put him through his paces this weekend to make sure he's ready. Alvarez caught a combined no-hitter with High-A Brooklyn on Tuesday, and he's drawn praise from coaches for the work he's put in during his rehab assignment. While his thumb will remain in a splint for a while yet, he should immediately slot back in as New York's starting catcher when he returns, although his backup -- whether that's Tomas Nido or Luis Torrens -- could still see a bigger workload in the short term as Alvarez gets eased back into action. • Drives in four
Gonzales went 2-for-3 with a two-RBI double, a sacrifice fly and an RBI single during Wednesday's 10-6 win over the Dodgers.

Advice: Despite the Pirates putting up a 10-spot, Gonzales' two-RBI double in the second inning was Pittsburgh's lone extra-base hit on the day. His four RBI tied his career high, which was set May 24 against Atlanta. Before that, the 25-year-old hadn't generated more than two RBI in a game in his career. Wednesday's contest added to Gonzales' breakout campaign, as he's slashing .310/.355/.500 with 20 RBI, 12 runs and two stolen bases in 94 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:31 pm

    • Nick Gonzales knocks in four in win over Dodgers
Nick Gonzales drove in four runs with a double, a single and a sac fly Wednesday as the Pirates bested the Dodgers 10-6.

Advice: Gonzales is now tied for third on the Pirates with 20 RBI, even as he’s a distant 11th on the team with 90 plate appearances. The Pirates started him at shortstop for the second time tonight, as Oneil Cruz was sitting against a lefty. Gonzales definitely seems better off at second, but the versatility helps, especially since he probably isn’t going to keep up this pace offensively. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:00 pm

    • Cleared to start Saturday
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Wednesday that Suarez (thumb) has been cleared to start Saturday's game against the Mets in London, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. "I think so," Thomson said ,when asked if Suarez would make his next scheduled start. "It looks like it. I believe we can line him up."

Advice: Suarez didn't throw a bullpen session Wednesday like Thomson intimated would be the case Tuesday, but the southpaw played catch for the second day in a row and appears to be feeling fine. He'll throw a light bullpen session Friday, but the Phillies are seemingly already banking on Suarez being available without restriction for the first of two games in London, with Taijuan Walker set to take the hill for the Sunday contest. Suarez was removed from his most recent start this past Saturday against the Cardinals after taking a comebacker to his left thumb. He avoided any structural damage to the thumb and merely dealt with some light swelling, which has since subsided. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:47 pm

    • Falls to St. Louis
Blanco (5-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Cardinals, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out two.

Advice: Blanco held St. Louis to one run through his first four frames before surrendering three runs between the fifth and sixth innings. After starting the year 5-0, Blanco's now dropped back-to-back starts while allowing eight runs across 9.1 innings in that span. The 30-year-old right-hander still sports a solid 2.78 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP and 59:27 K:BB across 11 starts (64.2 innings) this year. Blanco will look to get back on track in his next outing, currently scheduled for early next week in San Francisco. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 2:58 pm
