    • Down in five spot Friday
Machado will start at third base and bat fifth in Friday's game in Atlanta.

Advice: It's only the second time over the past nine seasons that Machado has batted lower than cleanup. The 31-year-old is in the middle of a 2-for-30 stretch at the plate to drop his season batting line to .222/.276/.346. Rotowire.com 37 minutes ago
    • Arraez back in the lineup Friday
Arraez is back in the Padres lineup, hitting leadoff against the Braves on Friday.

Advice: Arraez had a routine day off on Wednesday as the Padres faced Rockies left-hander Austin Gomber. He’s back in there as the designated hitter and leadoff man for Friday’s game. Rotoworld 57 minutes ago

    • Out again Friday
Riley (side) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against San Diego,Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Advice: Riley won't be starting for a fourth consecutive game as he deals with inflammation in his left side. Instead, Zack Short will draw another start at the hot corner and bat ninth. Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said that Riley is feeling better but isn't quite ready yet, per David O'Brien of The Athletic. He remains day-to-day. Rotowire.com Today, 12:37 pm

    • Stanton back in the lineup Friday
Giancarlo Stanton is back in the lineup, batting fifth for the Yankees against the White Sox on Friday.

Advice: Stanton had a routine day off on Thursday with the Yankees playing a day game after a night game. He’s past his prime at this point of his career, but the 34-year-old has still managed to blast nine home runs and 22 RBI in 144 at-bats this year. Rotoworld Today, 12:16 pm

    • Takes extra-innings loss
Alvarado (1-2) took the loss during Thursday's 11-inning 6-5 loss to the Mets, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and no walks across one inning. He struck out two.

Advice: Alvarado didn't take the mound until the 11th frame, when the score was knotted up at four, and ended up with the loss. He allowed a single to JD Martinez to open up the inning -- scoring designated runner Francisco Lindor -- before Harrison Bader doubled to put two runners aboard. Alvarado managed to retire the next three batters he faced; however, Martinez crossed home plate on a wild pitch to put the Mets up two. Through 18.2 innings, Alvarado owns a 3.86 ERA and is 8-for-8 in save chances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:43 pm
    • Jorge Soler (shoulder) continues rehab assignment
Jorge Soler (shoulder) will play another minor league rehab contest on Thursday for Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: Soler went 0-for-4 with a strikeout on Wednesday in his rehab assignment debut. The 32-year-old slugger checked out fine after being hit in the head by a deflection during batting practice earlier this week and should be ready to return to San Francisco’s lineup at some point in the near future. He landed on the injured list earlier this month with a right shoulder strain. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:30 pm

    • Aaron Judge doubles twice in victory over Twins
Aaron Judge doubled twice on Thursday in the Yankees’ win over the Twins.

Advice: Judge scalded a pair of doubles in this one that carried exit velocities over 108 mph and traveled over 400 feet, but wound up staying in the yard at spacious Target Field in Minnesota. He finished 2-for-3 with a walk, reaching base safely in three of his four plate appearances in the one-sided affair. The 32-year-old former AL MVP has rebounded from a frosty start at the dish this season, batting .396 (19-for-48) with five homers and nine doubles in 14 contests since the start of May. • Giancarlo Stanton gets a day off on Thursday
Giancarlo Stanton is not in the lineup for the Yankees on Thursday against the Twins.

Advice: With Aaron Judge at designated hitter on Thursday, the Yankees will give Stanton a day off and let Trent Grisham patrol centerfield. While Stanton is striking out 37 percent of the time in 11 games in May, he’s also hitting .267 with three home runs and six RBI during the month. It’s just a routine day off. • Hitting bench in series finale
Stanton is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Twins.

Advice: Stanton will get a breather for the day game after a night game, ceding his spot in the lineup to Trent Grisham, who will man center field while Aaron Judge slots into Stanton's usual role at designated hitter. After making 33 starts in the corner outfield in 2023, Stanton has been deployed exclusively at DH through the first quarter of the 2024 season. Given Stanton's lengthy injury history, the Yankees will likely look to keep him in a non-defensive role so long as the likes of Judge, Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo all maintain health.
