      Advice: Valdez followed up his start of seven shutout innings versus the Athletics with a dud Monday. He was doing fine until the Angels rallied for seven runs in the fifth, including three-run home runs by Nolan Schanuel and Logan O'Hoppe and a solo shot from Jo Adell. Valdez is now at a 4.32 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 34:12 K:BB through 41.2 innings over seven starts this season. He's projected to make his next start on the road in Seattle.       Helsley walked one and struck out none over a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the save in Monday's 6-3 win over the Orioles.

      Advice: Helsley hadn't pitched since last Tuesday, but he didn't show much rust. The closer is on a 10-inning scoreless streak, and he's earned seven saves and a win in that span. For the season, he's 14-for-15 in save chances with a 2-2 record, a 1.29 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 23:3 K:BB over 21 innings. Helsley's strong pitching has helped him go unquestioned as the Cardinals' closer this year, though the team's 21-26 record leaves some doubt about whether he can keep picking up saves at such a strong pace.       Framber Valdez was pounded for eight runs and three homers in five innings by the Angels in Monday’s loss.

      Advice: Valdez allowed just one run on four groundball singles through four innings tonight, but the fifth was a vastly different story. All three homers came in that inning, and it was really pretty amazing that he got to finish the frame while allowing seven runs. Valdez had a 2.88 ERA going into the fifth tonight, only to finish the game at 4.32. It’s the first time in his career that he’s allowed three homers and the second time that he’s allowed eight runs, with the other instance also coming against the Angels in 2020.       Ryan Helsley picked up his 14th save of the season against the Orioles on Monday.

      Advice: Helsley pitched another scoreless ninth inning, which was his 15th consecutive appearance without allowing an earned run. He walked Austin Hays with two outs before getting Cedric Mullens to fly out to end the game. Helsley last allowed an earned run on April 8th.       Stroman yielded a run on three hits and a walk over 7.1 innings in a no-decision Monday. He struck out six during the win over Seattle.

      Advice: Stroman cruised through seven shutout frames before coughing up a solo homer to Dominic Canzone in the eighth inning. Stroman was in line for his fourth win before the Yankees blew the lead in the ninth. He's produced a 2.22 ERA over his last four starts, dropping his season ERA to 3.05 through 56 innings. He's turned in two straight quality starts after failing to finish at least six frames in his previous six appearances. Stroman is in line to start in San Diego this weekend.     • Stroman allows one run in no-decision
      Marcus Stroman allowed one run in 7 1/3 innings, struck out six and got a no-decision in the Yankees’ 5-4 loss to the Mariners on Monday.



      Advice: Stroman was in line for his fourth win of the season, but the bullpen was unable to hold the lead. He began the eighth inning by striking out Dylan Moore before allowing a solo home run to Dominic Canzone as the only run he allowed all night. Yankees manager Aaron Boone then removed Stroman for Luke Weaver. Stroman lowered his ERA to 3.05 on the season with his fourth quality start in 10 tries. The 33-year-old right-hander is scheduled to face the Padres on the road on Saturday.

      Miller (shoulder) is expected to throw a simulated game Tuesday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

      Advice: Miller continues to make progress in his recovery after being sent to the 15-day injured list April 13 due to right shoulder inflammation. He successfully completed a bullpen session Saturday, and as expected, he's now been given the green light to toss a sim game.       Rodon (5-2) earned the win Sunday against the White Sox, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out six.

      Advice: Rodon allowed a homer and a triple in the second inning, leading to two runs, but didn't allow another runner to cross the plate through six quality frames against his former club. According to Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News, Yankees manager Aaron Boone confessed after the game that Rodon was battling a cold all week, and the skipper considered pulling him after five but was impressed with the way he battled back after the shaky second frame. It was the third consecutive quality start and win for Rodon, who will carry a 3.27 ERA into his next start, tentatively slated to take place in San Diego when the Yankees travel to take on the Padres during a three-game weekend set.       Carlos Rodón pitched six innings of two-run ball and struck out six Sunday as the Yankees topped the White Sox 7-2.

      Advice: Rodón got 23 missed swings today, with seven of those coming on the 18 changeups he threw. Rodón had been throwing the changeup just six percent of the time this season, and if he can continue to get results with that pitch, he’ll be considerably more dangerous.
