    • Wasn't available to pinch-hit
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that Guerrero (finger) wasn't available to pinch-hit Monday versus the Astros after being a late scratch from the lineup, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Guerrero was initially in Monday's lineup but had to be scratched after he "wasn't comfortable squeezing the bat" pregame, per Schneider. The fourth and fifth fingers on his right hand remain swollen as a result of a hit by pitch in Sunday's game against the Yankees. Guerrero will attempt to swing a bat again Tuesday before it's decided whether he can return to the lineup. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:38 pm

    • Vlad Jr. (finger) scratched from Monday’s lineup
Blue Jays removed Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (finger) from the starting lineup on Monday.

Advice: Guerrero Jr. was hit by a pitch in the hand yesterday and seemed confident he’d be able to play, but the Blue Jays are pulling him from the lineup with “Right 4th/5th finger discomfort.” It’s likely that his hand just didn’t feel up to the task after batting practice, but it doesn’t seem like a situation that will keep him out too long. Spencer Horwitz will play first base in his absence. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:48 pm

    • Nightengale: Rival execs say Alonso is staying put
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, rival team execs believe it’s more likely that Pete Alonso is not traded at the deadline.

Advice: Nightengale mentioned that “rival teams who have expressed interest” in Alonso are “convinced” he will “definitely stay put as long as the Mets are within five games of the wild-card race.” As of now, the Mets are just two games back and are 12-4 over their last 16 games. If the Mets do keep Alonso beyond the trade deadline, they will need to then decide how badly they want to extend him, but it would take one of the biggest power bats off the trade block this season. • Scratched from lineup
Guerrero was scratched from the lineup for Monday's game against the Astros due to right fourth/fifth finger discomfort, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Guerrero was hit in the right hand by a pitch in the third inning Sunday's 8-1 loss to the Yankees and was ultimately removed from the contest in the bottom of the eighth. While he was initially slated to play Monday in the series opener versus the Astros, some lingering soreness will ultimately prevent him from doing so. X-rays on the hand returned negative, and Guerrero is considered day-to-day. Ernie Clement will enter the lineup as a replacement for Guerrero, manning third base and batting ninth. • Cleared for Canada Day start
Guerrero (hand) will start at first base and bat third in Monday's game against the Astros.

Advice: Guerrero was hit in the right hand by a pitch in the third inning of Sunday's 8-1 loss to the Yankees, but he proceeded to stay in the game until he was lifted for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the eighth. X-rays on Guerrero's hand came back negative, and his removal from the contest might just have been precautionary while the Blue Jays faced a seven-run deficit at the time of his exit. Even with a quick turnaround for Monday's Canada Day game that begins at 3:07 p.m. ET, the Blue Jays evidently felt comfortable enough with Guerrero's health to insert him back in the lineup. • Homers for team's only run
Gelof went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Gelof gave the A's their lone run of the day when he took Brandon Pfaadt deep to right-center in the fifth. It was his ninth long ball of the year and sixth overall in June. Overall, it's been a disappointing season for the second-year player, but his bat woke up a bit over the latter part of the month. In 11 games since June 18, Gelof slashed .275/.310/.625 with four homers, eight RBI and eight runs scored, which has been his most productive stretch of the season thus far. • Three-hit effort in win
Witt went 3-for-4 with a triple, one RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Guardians.

Advice: Witt had gone 10 games without a multi-hit effort before Sunday's performance. The shortstop closed the month 33-for-108 (.306) with 12 extra-base hits, 12 RBI, 14 runs scored and six stolen bases over 27 contests. Through 86 games this year, Witt is slashing .312/.363/.534 with 12 home runs, 22 stolen bases, 54 RBI, 65 runs, 22 doubles and nine triples. He's made modest gains in plate discipline with a 7.3 percent walk rate (up from 5.9 percent last year) and 16.7 percent strikeout rate (down from 17.4 percent) to sustain his elite production. • Zack Gelof hits ninth homer in loss to D-backs
Zack Gelof blasted a solo homer on Sunday in the Athletics’ loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Gelof took Arizona starter Brandon Pfaadt deep to right-center field in the fifth inning for his ninth round-tripper of the season. The 24-year-old got off to an excruciatingly-slow start this season at the dish, but has come alive a little bit over the last few weeks, batting .259 with four homers and two steals in his last 15 games. • Paul Sewald lowers ERA to 0.54 on Sunday
Paul Sewald struck out two in a perfect ninth inning on Sunday against the Athletics.

Advice: It was a non-save situation, with Arizona leading by four runs entering the final frame, but Sewald remained locked-in nonetheless, needing just 13 pitches (11 strikes) to end the game. The 34-year-old righty has reeled off 17 consecutive scoreless appearances since giving up one run back on May 7 in his season debut. He’s converted all 11 of his save chances this season and boasts a microscopic 0.54 ERA, 0.48 WHIP and 15/3 K/BB ratio across 16 2/3 innings (18 appearances). Simply put, he’s still one of the top closers in the entire fantasy landscape. Rotoworld Sunday, 3:52 pm
