Despite sporting a 9.78 ERA after his first 23 innings, the 25-year-old has now lowered his overall ERA to 4.07 in 86.1 total innings.       Hunter Brown tossed six scoreless frames, allowing only two hits, Monday as the Astros defeated the Blue Jays 3-1.

      Advice: The Jays had a chance in the second, when Brown gave up a single and walked two to load the bases with one out, but Ernie Clement and Kevin Kiermaier failed to bring home any runners. Other than that, Brown kept the Toronto bats very quiet on Canada Day. He’s won five straight starts, allowing a total of one run in the process.       Rodriguez went 1-for-5 with a stolen base in a loss to the Twins on Sunday.

      Advice: Rodriguez's hit was only his second in the last 31 plate appearances, a seven-game span where the talented outfielder has generated an anemic .069 average and .198 OPS. The multi-game skid has temporarily erased a lot of the progress Rodriguez had made after a slow start to the season, as his slash line has dropped to a middling .247/.297/.327. However, there are underlying metrics that suggest Rodriguez is running into some tough luck as well -- he owns an expected batting average and slugging percentage of .272 and .434, respectively, and he's also boasting a career-best 21.7 percent line-drive rate.       The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal said “Tanner Scott is a popular name on the trade market” and “the Marlins are virtually certain to trade” him at the deadline.

      Advice: Rosenthal reported that “the Miami Marlins want a lot for their left-handed closer,” but they do expect to get it; however, it’s expected that Scott will not take over a closer’s role if he were traded to a contender. His strikeout-to-walk rate is at a career-low level and that command may keep him in a high-leverage shared role, facing mainly left-handed hitters.       Advice: Mountcastle's absence from the lineup was a surprising one Sunday considering his impressive .306/.359/.494 slash line against left-handed pitchers this season, but manager Brandon Hyde clarified after the contest that Mountcastle was feeling under the weather.       Peralta (6-4) picked up the win Sunday against the Cubs, allowing one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out eight over seven innings.

      Advice: Peralta yielded a solo home run to Nico Hoerner in the opening frame, but the 28-year-old was locked in afterwards, yielding just one other hit to notch his seventh quality start of the season. The right-hander has shown an impressive ability to miss bats, registering an 11.6 K/9 that ranks in the 95th percentile. Despite the lofty strikeout totals, Peralta has been mildly disappointing this season, logging a pedestrian 3.83 ERA and 1.13 WHIP across 94 innings.     • Peralta strikes out eight, picks up sixth win
      Freddy Peralta allowed one run in seven innings and got the win in the Brewer’s 7-1 victory over the Cubs on Sunday.

      Advice: Peralta gave up two hits, walked two and struck out eight. It was his sixth win of the season and third in June. Peralta has completed at least six innings and struck out eight batters in two of his last three starts. That’s a real positive considering that before that stretch he had completed six innings in just one of his previous six starts. Peralta has a 3.83 ERA on the season. The 28-year-old right-hander has a tough matchup against the Dodgers on the road next weekend.
