    • Masataka Yoshida might require thumb surgery
Red Sox manager Alex Cora indicated Thursday that Masataka Yoshida could wind up requiring surgery on his injured left thumb.

Advice: There’s significant concern that Yoshida could wind up requiring an extended absence as the Red Sox continue gathering medical information after he landed on the injured list earlier this week with a left thumb strain. The 30-year-old slugger, who has transitioned to designated hitter almost exclusively this season, underwent an MRI earlier this week and the club has declined to provide an update on his status. There should be some clarity on whether he’ll require surgery at some point later this week. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:20 pm
    • Three hits in extra-inning win
Kwan went 3-for-5 with a triple, a double and two RBI in Wednesday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Astros.

Advice: Kwan's RBI triple in the fifth inning gave the Guardians a 2-0 lead, and he plated the decisive run with a double in the 10th. He ended up a home run short of the cycle in Wednesday's strong performance. The leadoff hitter has gone 11-for-28 (.393) during his seven-game hitting streak, and he's slashing an excellent .360/.403/.512 with three homers, 11 RBI, 27 runs scored, three stolen bases, six doubles and two triples over 29 contests this season. • Surgery not ruled out
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Thursday that Yoshida might require surgery on his injured left thumb, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Yoshida was placed on the injured list Wednesday with what has been termed a left thumb strain. Cora noted Thursday that the medical staff is still gathering information regarding the injury before a decision is made on next steps for Yoshida, but it appears surgery is one of the possibilities. More clarity on the designated hitter's status should be available by the weekend. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:34 am
    • Three hits in Wednesday's loss
Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to Atlanta.

Advice: After going 0-for-8 in the first two games of the series, Rodriguez's bat woke up against Chris Sale. The 23-year-old outfielder has only had one sustained hot streak so far in 2024, but he's capable of sparking another one at any time. Through 129 plate appearances, Rodriguez is slashing .270/.310/.328 with one homer, seven steals, 11 RBI and 12 runs. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:42 am
    • Steven Kwan drives in game-winning run vs. Astros
Steven Kwan went 3-for-5 with a triple, double, and two RBI in a 3-2 win over the Astros on Wednesday.

Advice: After knocking a base hit in the first inning, Kwan drove in a run with a triple in the fifth. He came through in a big spot in the tenth, driving in the go-ahead run with a double. Kwan capped off his day with a game-ending diving catch in the bottom of the inning. The 26-year-old outfielder is slashing .360/.403/.512 with three homers, 27 runs scored, 11 RBI, and three steals across 134 plate appearances. Rotoworld Wednesday, 8:03 pm

    • Placed on injured list
The Red Sox placed Yoshida on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left thumb strain, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: MRI results revealed a strain in Yoshida's left thumb after he jammed his hand during Sunday's game against the Cubs, and there is no telling whether or not the 30-year-old outfielder will be able to return when eligible May 10. The newly signed Dominic Smith will take Yoshida's place on the active roster. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 3:58 pm
    • J-Rod raises average to .270 with three more hits
Julio Rodríguez went 3-for-5 with a run scored on Wednesday in the Mariners’ loss to the Braves.

Advice: Rodríguez has clearly snapped out of an early-season funk at the dish with seven multi-hit performances in his last 13 contests over the past two weeks since April 17. The 23-year-old fantasy superstar has just one round-tripper through 31 games, but he’s managed to raise his batting average back up to the .270 mark, and has also chipped in seven steals as well. It’s just a matter of time before he starts hitting moonshots again. Rotoworld Wednesday, 3:25 pm
    • Out against lefty
Outman isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's matchup against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: The lefty-hitting outfielder will begin on the bench for the third straight game as the Dodgers take on another southpaw in Jordan Montgomery. The outfield will comprise of Teoscar Hernandez, Andy Pages and Chris Taylor as Outman watches the start from the dugout. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 2:55 pm

    • Red Sox place Masataka Yoshida on 10-day IL
Red Sox placed OF Masataka Yoshida on the 10-day injured list with a left hand injury.

Advice: The 30-year-old was held out of Tuesday’s lineup with the injury and is going to miss at least a couple of weeks while recovering. No word yet on the corresponding move, but it sounds like Dominic Smith’s deal could be finalized before first pitch on Wednesday and he could jump right onto the active roster.
