    • Three hits, steal in loss
Fraley went 3-for-4 with a stolen base in Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Giants.

Advice: Fraley was the only Cincinnati hitter with multiple hits in the contest. He had gone 14 games without a multi-hit effort, batting a paltry .132 (5-for-38) in that span. That stretch put a significant damper on the outfielder's solid start to the year, but he's still slashing .304/.368/.392 with six steals, one home run, five RBI and 16 runs scored over 87 plate appearances. Fraley sat out a couple of games versus right-handed pitchers early in May, but it appears that was temporary as he has resumed a strong-side platoon role between right field and designated hitter. • Masataka Yoshida (thumb) will not need surgery
Red Sox manager Alex Cora announced Friday that Masataka Yoshida will not require surgery on his injured left thumb.

Advice: He’s still going to be shut down for a couple of weeks before he starts swinging a bat again, but overall this is encouraging news for the Red Sox and for fantasy managers. Yoshida has been shelved since the beginning of May. He has hit .275/.348/.388 with a pair of homers, 11 RBI and an 11/6 K/BB ratio over 89 plate appearances in 24 games on the season. • Won't need surgery
Yoshida got a third opinion on his left thumb and said Friday that the injury wouldn't require surgery, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Yoshida is battling a strained left thumb and, up until this point, surgery was not off the table. After seeing his third specialist, it's been decided that he'll be able to go straight into rehab without it. Manager Alex Cora said it will still be weeks until Yoshida can resume swinging a bat, per Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald. Rotowire.com Friday, 12:37 pm

    • Lifts homer in win
Santander went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the Nationals.

Advice: Santander is hitting just .227 over seven games in May and batting .215 on the year, but he has a homer in two of his last three contests. The outfielder has added a .737 OPS through 35 games this season, though that's still a decent margin behind last year's .797 mark. Santander is up to six homers, 24 RBI, 18 runs scored, nine doubles, one triple and no steals through 147 plate appearances while holding down a starting role in right field. • Still experiencing thumb soreness
Yoshida is still experiencing discomfort in his left thumb and will be examined by a specialist Wednesday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Yoshida could receive additional opinions, noting Wednesday that he's been told he's dealing with "a rare injury" and is still figuring out the best way to proceed with his recovery. He's been out for all of May with the injury, and a timetable for his return from the 10-day injured list remains up in the air. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 1:49 pm

    • Idle against lefty
Fraley is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Fraley and fellow lefty hitter Will Benson will head to the bench Wednesday while southpaw Jordan Montgomery toes the slab for Arizona. Luke Maile and Stuart Fairchild will join the lineup as the starters at designated hitter and in right field, respectively, while Fraley and Benson sit. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 12:45 pm

    • On base thrice in Tuesday's win
Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a single, two walks, a stolen base and a run in a win over the Twins on Tuesday.

Advice: Rodriguez deployed the small-ball strategy to great effectiveness Tuesday, pushing his OBP for the season back over the .300 mark (.309) in the process. The steal was Rodriguez's eighth of the season in 10 attempts; however, he's still sitting on just a single home run and five extra-base hits overall in 152 plate appearances after averaging one XBH every 10.1 trips to the batter's box a season ago. Both Rodriguez's barrel (6.4 percent) and hard-hit (30.9 percent) rates have taken notable dips from their respective 11.9 percent and 38.87 percent figures in 2023, partly explaining the power drought. • Idle against lefty
Outman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Outman will retreat to the bench Wednesday with southpaw Ryan Weathers taking the hill for Miami. He'll be replaced in center field by Andy Pages. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 11:09 am
