    • Astros tab Hunter Brown to start second half
Hunter Brown will start Friday’s second-half series opener against the division-rival Mariners.

Advice: It appeared almost certain that Brown would be demoted after a brutal nine-start stretch to open the year, but he managed to turn things around to finish the first half with an impressive 2.36 ERA over his final 10 outings since May 22. It’ll be Framber Valdez and Ronel Blanco to round out the first series of the second half for Houston on the road at T-Mobile Park. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:46 pm
    • Vaughn Grissom could start a rehab assignment soon
The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey reports that Grissom “could see a rehab assignment within the next couple weeks.”

Advice: After the Red Sox traded Chris Sale to get Grissom this offseason, the 23-year-old has only played in 23 games. He began the year on the IL with a hamstring injury and then was sidelined a month later when they resurfaced. According to McCaffrey, “The Red Sox have tried to balance out the strength in each hamstring to ensure he can stay on the field.” With David Hamilton playing well, the Red Sox likely won’t rush Grissom back, but his eventual return could complicate playing time in the middle infield. • Pivetta, Bello, Crawford will start vs LAD
The Boston Red Sox announced that Nick Pivetta, Brayan Bello, and Kutter Crawford would start their three-game series against the Dodgers this weekend.

Advice: Nick Pivetta will start on Friday, Brayan Bello will start on Saturday and then Kutter Crawford will start on Sunday. Each can perform well against the Dodgers without a fully healthy lineup, but there is significant risk, especially with Bello. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:36 am
    • Tallies ninth homer
Lowe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Sunday against the Guardians.

Advice: Lowe had the first half of his season disrupted by oblique and toe injuries, but he appears to be finding his timing at the plate. Since June 1, he's hit .287 with eight home runs, 19 RBI and 19 runs scored. Lowe will continue to sit regularly against lefties, but he should be locked into the top third of the lineup for most games against right-handed pitching. Rotowire.com Monday, 7:59 am
    • Picks up another win Sunday
Sale (13-3) earned the win over the Padres on Sunday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out four over five innings.

Advice: Sale let up a run in the opening frame but was able to limit the damage to just a run after allowing three base hits in the inning. He silenced the Padres from there to pick up his league-leading 13th win and his third consecutive victory. He becomes the first Atlanta pitcher since 2000 to head into the All-Star break with 13 wins. Sale has now allowed two or fewer runs in each of his last seven starts and heads into the break with a 2.70 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 140:24 K:BB in 110 innings. Rotowire.com Monday, 7:47 am

    • Logs fifth steal
Kwan went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's 2-0 loss to the Rays.

Advice: This was Kwan's first steal since June 25 and his fifth of the campaign on nine attempts. Given he missed a month with a hamstring issue, it's not a surprise he's been a bit more cautious on the basepaths. The outfielder is batting .283 in July and now has a .352/.407/.512 slash line with nine home runs, 27 RBI, 55 runs scored, 14 doubles and two triples through 308 plate appearances this year. • Notches third steal
Mountcastle went 1-for-5 with a stolen base in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Yankees.

Advice: Mountcastle's steal was his third of the year, putting him one shy of matching his career high. The first baseman's speed isn't notable, but he's been steady at the plate, going 10-for-40 (.250) over 10 contests in July. Overall, he's slashing .271/.311.,447 with 12 home runs, 43 RBI, 44 runs scored, 22 doubles and a triple through 88 games this season. Rotowire.com Sunday, 11:00 pm
    • Clubs homer in win
Santander went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a triple in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Yankees.

Advice: Santander is 13-for-46 (.283) with five extra-base hits and three RBI over 12 contests in July. It was always reasonable to expect that he'd take a step back in the power department after slugging 13 homers in June. For the season, the outfielder is slashing .237/.301/.503 with 24 long balls, 58 RBI, 49 runs scored, 16 doubles and two triples over 91 games. Rotowire.com Sunday, 10:54 pm
    • Notches four-out save
Scott allowed two walks over 1.1 scoreless innings and earned a save against the Reds on Sunday. He struck out two batters.

Advice: Scott faced a two-on, two-out situation in the ninth inning but struck out Edwin Rios to close out the 3-2 win. He's riding a 12.1-inning scoreless streak while converting six straight save chances. He's now 14 for 16 in save opportunities with a stellar 1.34 ERA through 39 appearances.
