• Increasing baseball activiteis
Edman (wrist) is slated to take full swings off a tee Saturday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Edman recently progressed to hitting from both sides of the dish after being limited to the right side due to his surgically repaired right wrist. He was also seen tracking fly balls during batting practice Friday, per John Denton of MLB.com. Edman appears far away from starting a rehab assignment, but the 29-year-old is steadily progressing. • Cardinals taking things slow with Tommy Edman
Cardinals’ manager Oli Marmol said Friday that the team continues to proceed cautiously with Tommy Edman (wrist).

Advice: The 28-year-old has been hitting off of a tee from both sides of the plate, but Marmol noted that his progression will continue to be slower than most injured players’ by design. He also said that a minor league rehab assignment is not imminent. Expect the Cardinals to continue to build him up slowly with no clear timetable on when he could be ready to make his 2024 season debut. Rotoworld Today, 2:52 pm

  • Battling back tightness
Mendick was scratched from the White Sox's lineup for Friday's game against St. Louis due to lower-back tightness, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The severity of Mendick's injury remains unknown, but it is apparently enough to prevent him from starting Friday's contest. Braden Shewmake will serve as Chicago's replacement third baseman while batting ninth. Rotowire.com Today, 2:51 pm

  • Begins assignment Friday
Gonzalez (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Worcester on Friday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: After a slower-than-expected recovery from a left wrist sprain, Gonzalez will now begin the final step of his rehab process. The Red Sox haven't specified exactly how long they plan on keeping the 27-year-old infielder in the minors, but he shouldn't require too long of an assignment if everything goes smoothly. • Homers again Friday
Morel went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 3-1 loss to the Brewers.

Advice: Morel snapped a scoreless tie with two outs in the sixth inning, launching a solo shot to centerfield off Joe Ross to put the Cubs ahead 1-0. Morel now has homers in back-to-back games and three in his last five contests following a span of 16 games without a long ball. The 24-year-old third baseman is now slashing .210/.286/.403 through 133 plate appearances this year with six homers, 18 RBI, 19 runs scored and three stolen bases. Rotowire.com Today, 2:27 pm

  • Brandon Lowe (oblique) ready for rehab assignment
Brandon Lowe (oblique) will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Durham on Tuesday.

Advice: The 29-year-old slugger has been shelved since April 9 due to a right oblique strain. Given the long layoff, he’s likely to require several games at the Triple-A level to get his timing back before he’s ready to return to a Rays’ lineup that is in desperate need of a boost. Lowe was hitting just .185/.267/.333 with a homer and four RBI in eight games before being sidelined. Rotoworld Today, 2:24 pm

  • Luis Garcia Jr. sits against left-hander on Friday
Luis Garcia Jr. is not in the Nationals’ starting lineup on Friday night with left-hander Yusei Kikuchi toeing the slab for the Blue Jays.

Advice: Like Garcia, fellow left-handers Jesse Winker and Eddie Rosario will get a night off with the southpaw on the hill for the Jays. Trey Lipscomb will make a rare start at second base and will bat ninth in Garcia’s place while Nick Senzel covers the hot corner for the Nationals. Rotoworld Today, 2:03 pm
  • Scratched Friday
Mendick was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Cardinals for unspecified reasons.

Advice: Mendick was slated to bat seventh and play third base but was moved out of the lineup for reasons yet to be disclosed. Instead, Braden Shewmake will play third and bat ninth. Rotowire.com Today, 2:02 pm

  • Back in big leagues
The Twins recalled Martin from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Advice: The 25-year-old was sent to St. Paul on Monday but will quickly rejoin the Twins as Byron Buxton (knee) landed on the injured list. Martin, Manuel Margot and Willi Castro could all see action in center field while Buxton is unavailable. Rotowire.com Today, 2:01 pm
