    • Brilliant in no-decision
Jones did not factor into the decision in Saturday's win against the Rockies. He allowed one hit and no walks while striking out 10 over seven scoreless innings.

Advice: The 22-year-old right-hander bounced back from a rather modest showing his last time out, matching his career high with 10 strikeouts. Jones got 17 swings and misses on 96 pitches and touched 100 mph with his heater a couple times. While he has a losing record at 2-3, Jones is off to a historically great start to his career. He became the first pitcher in Pirates history with an outing consisting of seven shutout innings, one hit or fewer allowed, 10 strikeout and zero walks Saturday, and per MLB's Sarah Langs, Jones is the first pitcher since at least 1901 with 50-plus strikeouts and five or fewer walks in his first seven career starts. • Max Scherzer (thumb) currently in holding pattern
Max Scherzer (back, thumb) is currently in a holding pattern when it comes to his rehab process.

Advice: The 39-year-old right-hander was scratched from a rehab outing earlier in the week due to inflammation in his thumb ligament. While that issue hasn’t gotten any worse, it also hasn’t improved over the last couple of days, causing the Rangers to kind of put everything on hold. They’ll continue to take things day-to-day until he feels improvement and is ready to resume playing catch again. Obviously that means there’s no clear timetable for when he may take the mound for the Rangers. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:38 pm

    • Jared Jones strikes out ten over seven scoreless
Jared Jones tossed seven shutout innings with ten strikeouts in a no-decision against the Rockies on Saturday.

Advice: There were some concerns over Jones’ velocity his last time out. He looked just fine on Saturday, shutting down the Rockies over seven innings. He was back up to 97.6 mph on the fastball, generating 17 whiffs to strike out ten batters. Jones allowed just one baserunner on the day, a double by Elias Díaz in the fifth inning. The 22-year-old right-hander will take an outstanding 2.63 ERA, 0.78 WHIP, and a 52/5 K/BB ratio across 41 innings into a start against the Cubs in Pittsburgh on Friday. • Rangers place Nathan Eovaldi (groin) on 15-day IL
Rangers placed RHP Nathan Eovaldi on the 15-day injured list with a right groin strain.

Advice: Eovaldi suffered the injury while twirling a gem against the Nationals on Thursday afternoon. The Rangers have not yet commented on how long they expect the 34-year-old right-hander to be sidelined for. Yerry Rodriguez was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock to take his place on the roster for the time being. Rotoworld Friday, 2:42 pm

    • Put on injured list
Eovaldi was placed on the 15-day injured list on Friday with a strained right groin.

Advice: Eovaldi underwent an MRI on Friday which confirmed a right groin strain. He'll join Max Scherzer (back) on the shelf, while Yerry Rodriguez will join the big-league roster. Eovaldi's next start was scheduled for Tuesday, an opening that could be filled by Jack Leiter, who's currently in Triple-A. Rotowire.com Friday, 1:52 pm

    • MRI scheduled Friday
Eovaldi (groin) will undergo an MRI on Friday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Eovaldi, who was removed from Thursday's win over the Nationals, will travel with the club to Kansas City for the procedure. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said the team is "being cautious" with the 34-year-old right-hander, whose next turn is due Tuesday. Nothing will be determined until after the MRI, but Bochy indicated Eovaldi might just need some rest. Rotowire.com Friday, 3:14 am

    • Max Scherzer targeting rehab outing next week
Max Scherzer (back, thumb) is likely to make a minor league rehab start next week.

Advice: Scherzer told reporters Thursday that his thumb is improving and he was able to resume playing catch without any issues. The hope is that he’ll be ready for a minor league outing at some point next week. Barring any further setbacks, he could return to Texas’ starting rotation mix by mid-May. • Solid in season debut
Bradish did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Yankees, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out five.

Advice: Bradish had to contend with some traffic Thursday, though he'd ultimately hold the Yankees to one run on Anthony Rizzo's two-out RBI single in the third inning. Overall, it was an encouraging debut from Bradish after he'd missed the first month of the season with a partially torn UCL -- he averaged 95 mph with his sinker while inducing six whiffs on his slider, both in line with his numbers from last year. It remains to be seen how much deeper the Orioles will allow Bradish to work in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for a road matchup with the Nationals. • Kyle Bradish allows one over 4 2/3 in season debut
Kyle Bradish went 4 2/3 innings while allowing one run on four hits in his start against the Yankees on Thursday.

Advice: Bradish was making his season debut after missing the first month of the year due to his elbow ailment, and while he wasn’t able to get the needed outs to qualify for the win, it’s fair to call this a successful outing. The 27-year-old allowed four hits and two walks, but he was able to fan five while landing 51-of-84 pitches for strikes. Bradish will get a chance to work deeper in a friendly matchup against the Nationals next week. Rotoworld Thursday, 2:04 pm
