    • Paul Skenes goes six hitless, fans 11 in first win
Paul Skenes pitched no-hit ball for six innings, striking out 11, in the Pirates’ 9-3 win over the Cubs on Friday.

Advice: Skenes was overwhelming in striking out the first seven batters he faced, and he didn’t let up much after that. He allowed only one hard-hit ball, a 107-mph groundout from Miguel Amaya. In fact, six of his seven non-strikeout outs came on grounders. It was a clear step forward from his debut last week and even a little extra impressive because it came against a lineup that had just seen him. Rotoworld 26 minutes ago

    • Kyle Hendricks gets roughed up by Pirates in loss
Kyle Hendricks was lit up for eight runs — seven earned — and 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Pirates.

Advice: Hendricks had a decent effort against the same lineup Sunday in his first start off the IL, but the Pirates had his number today. It perhaps shouldn’t have been quite as bad as it was; he actually wound up with a nice 35% CSW and none of the nine hard-hit balls he allowed came in over 103.9 mph. He struck out four and walked none. Hendricks’ spot is probably safe for now, but similar results this weekend against Atlanta might force the Cubs to make a change even before Jordan Wicks returns. • Jared Triolo homers as part of three-RBI day
Jared Triolo delivered a two-run homer and an RBI single against the Cubs on Friday.

Advice: Ke’Bryan Hayes’ back injury gave Triolo a reprieve when Nick Gonzales was called up, but Gonzales is performing well so far (.824 OPS) and Triolo will need more of this if he’s going to stick around after Hayes returns. Triolo entered the day having gone hitless in his last four games and having collected only three extra-base hits in 161 plate appearances on the season. He’s at .201/.291/.257 overall. • Yasmani Grandal knocks in three against Cubs
Yasmani Grandal went 2-for-5 and knocked in three runs in the rout of the Pirates on Friday.

Advice: Grandal has started four of the last five games over Joey Bart, so it’s not much of a job share behind the plate for the Pirates right now. Grandal has hit .212/.229/.424 but with nine RBI in 10 games since coming off the injured list. Rotoworld 26 minutes ago
    • Miguel Amaya hits second homer in loss to Pirates
Miguel Amaya hit just his second homer of the year in the eighth inning Friday to break up the Pirates’ shutout bid in a Cubs loss.

Advice: Amaya’s homer projected at 374 feet and would have gone out of 10 ballparks, according to Statcast. In spite of Amaya’s struggles offensively — he’s batting .184/.248/.297 — the Cubs have continued to give him most of the starts behind the plate. Yan Gomes has gotten the nod in just one of the team’s last six games. Rotoworld 26 minutes ago

    • Available off bench Friday
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that Carter (back) is available off the bench for Friday's series opener against the Angels, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Carter hasn't played since May 10 against the Rockies due to lower-back inflammation. He received a cortisone shot Monday, and while he won't be starting Friday, he will be available out of the dugout if needed. Carter is slashing .216/.303/.416 with six doubles, five home runs and 15 RBI over 142 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago

    • Ceddanne Rafaela gets a breather on Friday night
Ceddanne Rafaela is not in the Red Sox’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Cardinals in St. Louis.

Advice: It looks to be just a routine day of rest for the versatile 23-year-old. David Hamilton will start in his place at shortstop and will bat ninth against veteran right-hander Kyle Gibson on Friday evening. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago

    • Cedric Mullins sits against another righty Friday
Cedric Mullins is absent from the Orioles’ starting lineup on Friday night against the Mariners.

Advice: It’s starting to become a trend that the once-feared slugger is now sitting against right-handers. Mullins has now found himself stationed on the pine three times in the team’s past five ballgames. Colton Cowser will cover center field in his place while Kyle Stowers will draw a start in left field and bat eighth for the O’s against Bryce Miller and the Mariners. • Another rehab outing on tap
Francis (forearm) is scheduled to make a rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Francis opened the rehab assignment Tuesday and covered two scoreless innings. The 28-year-old righty-hander will likely fill a long-relief role upon his return, so he could be deemed ready for activation following Sunday's outing. Rotowire.com 31 minutes ago
