    • Luis Gil defeats Red Sox to improve to 9-1
      Luis Gil picked up his ninth victory of the season on Friday night, limiting the Red Sox to just one run on four hits over his five innings of work.

      Advice: Gil racked up six strikeouts on the evening while allowing four walks. The lone tally against him in the ballgame came on a run-scoring double off the bat of Enmanuel Valdez in the fourth inning. Otherwise, he was locked in and able to make big pitches when he needed to in order to escape trouble. Gil generated 13 whiffs on 104 pitches in the contest — nine of them on his fastball — while posting a CSW of 26 percent.       Houck (7-5) earned the win against the Phillies on Thursday, allowing three runs on eight hits and no walks with five strikeouts over six innings.

      Advice: He tossed three scoreless innings then loaded the bases and surrendered a three-run double to Kyle Schwarber in a rough fourth. Houck rebounded with two more scoreless frames to earn his fifth straight quality start and received plenty of offensive support, as the Red Sox tagged Aaron Nola for eight runs. Houck has now allowed three or fewer earned runs in 13 of 14 starts and has been one of baseball's biggest breakouts so far in 2024.       Tanner Houck allowed three runs in six innings and got the win in the Red Sox’ 9-3 victory over the Phillies on Thursday.

      Advice: Houck gave up eight hits, walked none and struck out five. The win was his seventh of the season. Houck has allowed more than three earned runs in a start only once in 14 starts this year. His ERA is now 2.08 on the season. The 27-year-old right-hander is set to face the Blue Jays on the road next week.

      Advice: Bibee surrendered a solo home run to Jeimer Candelario in the first, then he was taken deep by him again for a three-run shot in the sixth. Otherwise, Bibee mostly looked fantastic with a season-high 11 strikeouts and a stretch where he retired 11 straight hitters.       Tanner Bibee had mixed results in Wednesday’s loss to the Reds, giving up four runs on just four hits over his 5 1/3 innings of work.

      Advice: The right-hander piled up 11 strikeouts during the impressive outing while issuing only one base on balls. Unfortunately, two of the four hits that he allowed left the yard — as Jeimer Candelario belted a solo homer in the opening inning and a go-ahead three-run shot that chased Bibee in the sixth. The 25-year-old hurler got a whopping 16 swings and misses on 102 pitches on the night — seven on his slider alone — while registering a CSW of 33 percent. He’ll look to get back in the win column as he carries a 3.94 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and an 87/20 K/BB ratio (75 1/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Mariners.       Blanco (6-2) got the win over the Giants on Tuesday, allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out eight over six innings.

      Advice: Blanco matched his season high with eight strikeouts. His lone blemish on the night was allowing a solo home run to Brett Wisely in the third inning. It was an encouraging bounceback effort from the 30-year-old after allowing eight runs and combining to strike out eight over his prior two starts coming into Tuesday's game.       Ronel Blanco limited the Giants to one run and three hits over six innings in the Astros’ 3-1 victory Tuesday.

      Advice: Blanco matched his high total with eight strikeouts in bouncing back from consecutive poor showings against the Twins and Cardinals.       Advice: Burnes dazzled in the series finale, shutting down Tampa Bay to collect his ninth consecutive quality start and 11th overall. The only blemish on the 29-year-old's evening was a two-run homer yielded to Alex Jackson that drove in a pair of unearned runs. Overall, Burnes now sports a 2.08 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 82:22 K:BB in 86.2 innings while being tied for the league lead in quality starts.       Corbin Burnes was charged with a pair of unearned runs over seven innings on Monday in a win over the Rays.

      Advice: Burnes served up a two-run homer to light-hitting Rays backstop Alex Jackson in the second inning after a two-out error by second baseman Jordan Westburg allowed the frame to continue. He kept Tampa Bay’s lineup off the scoreboard otherwise into the late stages of the contest, outdueling opposing starter Ryan Pepiot in the process, to pick up his seventh win of the year. He finished with six strikeouts and only issued one walk.
