    • Blake Snell strikes out 10 in rehab start Friday
Blake Snell (adductor) recorded 10 strikeouts over five hitless innings on Friday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: He’s ready. The plan all along had been for Snell to rejoin the Giants’ rotation next week as long as this start went well, and he was nearly perfect, allowing just one walk over five frames. The 31-year-old reigning NL Cy Young Award winner should slot back into San Francisco’s rotation against the Pirates in Pittsburgh next week. Prior to landing on the injured list, Snell had gone 0-3 with a bloated 11.57 ERA, 1.97 WHIP and 12/5 K/BB ratio across 11 2/3 innings (three starts). Rotoworld Today, 3:30 am

    • Shut down from throwing
Whitlock (oblique) reported soreness in his left elbow following his rehab start at Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Whitlock performed well during his outing Wednesday, throwing 4.2 scoreless innings while striking out five batters, but his elbow may cause his return to the Red Sox to be postponed. The 27-year-old righty will be examined by team doctors in Boston on Monday, at which point more information on his status will be available. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:16 pm

    • Garrett Whitlock dealing with soreness in elbow
Garrett Whitlock will undergo additional testing on Monday after experiencing soreness in his right elbow.

Advice: Ugh. The 27-year-old hurler had looked sharp in his latest minor league rehab start at Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, striking out five batters over 4 2/3 innings of shutout baseball. The plan was to have him rejoin the Red Sox’ rotation next week, but that’s obviously on hold for now. The Red Sox should provide an update on his status after Monday’s testing is complete, but it doesn’t sound great. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:08 pm

    • Exceptional in rehab start
Whitlock (oblique) struck out five and allowed two hits and one walk over 4.2 scoreless innings Wednesday in his rehab start with Triple-A Worcester.

Advice: Whitlock pumped in 40 of his 61 pitches for strikes and induced 12 swings and misses, looking as strong as ever while pitching in a game for the first time since April 16. Even though he didn't get fully stretched out for a traditional starter's workload Wednesday, Whitlock could return from the 15-day injured list to make his next appearance out of the Red Sox rotation. If the Red Sox decide he won't require an additional rehab appearance, Whitlock would likely start with the big club either Monday or Tuesday at Tampa Bay. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 10:44 am

    • Garrett Whitlock sharp in rehab start
Garrett Whitlock (oblique) pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out five, in his rehab start for Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday.

Advice: Whitlock is slated to come off the injured list and rejoin the Red Sox rotation next week. The Red Sox could go to six starters for a spell then or send Cooper Criswell, who has been terrific, either to the bullpen or Triple-A. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:53 am

    • Bounces back with win
Greene (2-2) got the win over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five over seven innings.

Advice: Greene's only blunder of an inning came in the third after he allowed the first two guys on before they came around to score on a base knock from Blaze Alexander. He otherwise kept Arizona quiet and put together an excellent rebound outing after some mixed results against the Diamondbacks last week. Greene has walked at least a batter in every start this season, but his one free pass was significantly better than the nine he'd given up over his last two starts. The 24-year-old flamethrower now owns a 3.27 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 58:22 K:BB in 52.1 innings. He lines up to complete a two-start week against the Dodgers this weekend. • Hunter Greene goes seven to win in Arizona
Hunter Greene lasted seven innings and allowed two runs in the Reds’ 6-2 defeat of the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Advice: Greene walked nine in his previous two starts, but he issued just one free pass tonight. He also went without giving up a homer, though Corbin Carroll’s shot to right to lead off the bottom of the first would have been a homer had the game been played in Cincinnati, rather than Arizona. Greene improved to 2-2 with a 3.27 ERA. In spite of his success, the Reds are just 2-7 in his starts. Rotoworld Tuesday, 10:52 pm

    • Blake Snell to make rehab start Friday at Triple-A
Blake Snell (adductor) will make another minor league rehab start on Friday for Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: Snell will require one additional tune-up prior to returning to San Francisco’s starting rotation at some point later next week. The 31-year-old southpaw has been on the shelf since late April due to a left adductor strain. He struck out seven batters last Sunday in a dominant rehab outing for Single-A San Jose. • Next rehab start Friday
Snell (thigh) will make another rehab start at Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Snell fired four perfect innings while striking out seven batters during his first rehab outing at Single-A San Jose, though he'll be facing some tougher competition during his next start. Assuming everything goes smoothly, Friday is expected to be the 31-year-old's final game in the minors, putting him in line to return from the IL and start May 23 against the Pirates.
