    • Let down by defense in blown save
Holmes (1-4) took the loss and blew the save against Baltimore on Sunday, allowing three unearned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one batter over two-thirds of an inning.

Advice: In a roller-coaster ninth inning, New York scored three runs in the top of the frame to take a 5-3 lead. Holmes entered to try to close things out in the bottom of the inning but couldn't get the job done, giving up three runs, the final two of which came on a Cedric Mullins walk-off double. Though he didn't pitch particularly well, it would be unfair to pin the blame entirely on Holmes for the dramatic defeat, as a two-out error by Anthony Volpe allowed a run to score and kept the frame alive for Mullins' double, which had an xBA of .150, per Statcast -- Alex Verdugo took a terrible route to the ball and pinned the blame on himself for the result after the game, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. It was nonetheless a poor end to the first half of the campaign for Holmes, who has blown two of his past four save chances while giving up five runs (two earned) across four frames during that span. • Strong start spoiled
Gilbert tossed seven scoreless innings Sunday against the Angels, allowing just two hits and no walks while striking out nine. He did not factor into the decision.

Advice: Gilbert was magnificent once again and had another strong start wasted by the bullpen. Gilbert exited with a 2-0 lead that vanished in the eighth inning after two walks and a three-run homer by Jo Adell put the Angels in front for good. Sunday was the fifth time this season that Gilbert did not allow a run in a start and his nine strikeouts tied a season high. The 27-year-old will head into the break with a 2.79 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 124:25 K:BB in 132.1 innings. Since he pitched Sunday, Gilbert will not be available to throw in Tuesday's All-Star Game. • Struggles with command
Lodolo yielded two runs on three hits and four walks over 4.2 innings in a no-decision Sunday. He struck out four during the loss to Miami.

Advice: Lodolo kept the Marlins off the board through four innings before Jonah Bride knocked a two-run single in the fifth. Lodolo has failed to complete five frames in three straight outings since his win in Pittsburgh on June 18. During that three-start span, he's produced a lackluster 11:9 K:BB over 13 innings. Lodolo finishes his first half with a strong 3.33 ERA and 81:24 K:BB through 78.1 frames. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:02 pm

    • Takes loss Sunday
Duran (5-4) allowed an unearned run on one hit without retiring a batter to take the loss Sunday versus the Giants.

Advice: Duran gave up a triple to Mike Yastrzemski to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning, and it turned into a run after Brooks Lee's relay throw ended up in the dugout. It's a tough way for Duran to take a loss, which also ended his 7.2-inning scoreless streak, but it won't hurt his ERA, which remains at 2.93 to go with a 0.98 WHIP and 29:10 K:BB through 30.2 innings. Since Duran was pitching in a tied game before giving up the run, he also will avoid taking his second blown save of the year, and his status as the Twins' primary closer is not in question. • Logan Gilbert goes seven scoreless in no-decision
Logan Gilbert shut out the Angels for seven innings, striking out nine, in a no-decision Sunday.

Advice: Gilbert allowed just two hits before leaving with a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately, it disappeared immediately in the eighth, as Ryne Stanek hurt himself on a leadoff walk and Austin Voth went on to give up a three-run homer to take a loss. It’s the fifth time this season that Gilbert has gone without allowing a run. He’s a worthy All-Star as he finishes the first half with a 2.79 ERA, but he won’t get to pitch in the game after working today. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:49 pm

    • Jhoan Duran takes loss on error in ninth
Jhoan Duran took a loss after giving up a triple to the only batter he faced Sunday against the ninth.

Advice: Opening the bottom of the ninth in a tie game, Duran gave up a well-placed 88.8 mph flyball to the right-center gap. Mike Yastrzemski tried stretching the hit into a triple, and relay man Brooks Lee threw the ball into the dugout to end the game. The run was unearned, of course. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:21 pm

    • Lodolo struggles with command against Miami
Nick Lodolo allowed two runs on three hits in 4 2/3 innings while walking four in a no-decision against the Marlins.

Advice: Lodolo got ahead of hitters often, starting 15 of the 19 batters he faced with a first-pitch strike; however, he struggled to put people away. He did strike out four on the day, but he also had just a 49 percent zone rate overall and had a hard time locating anything other than his fastball. He’ll carry a 3.33 ERA into a start against the Nationals on Sunday after the All-Star break. If he can recapture his command, he should have a solid second half of the season. • Bichette (calf) sits out first half finale Sunday
Bo Bichette (calf) was held out of the Blue Jays’ starting lineup for Sunday’s first half finale against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: While the 26-year-old shortstop showed improvement over the weekend, the Jays’ thought it made more sense to keep him out of action and give him the extended rest with the All-Star break coming up. Once again, Leo Jimenez will start in his place at shortstop and he’ll bat seventh against Zac Gallen and the Diamondbacks on Sunday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:12 pm

    • Out for fourth straight game
Bichette (calf) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Bichette will miss his fourth contest in a row due to a right calf strain, but the Blue Jays' decision not to place him on the injured list offers hope that he'll be ready to go coming out of the All-Star break. Leo Jimenez will once again fill in at shortstop in place of Bichette, who will turn his sights toward a return to the lineup next Friday versus the Tigers. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:06 pm
