    • Glasnow takes tough luck loss against Pirates
      Tyler Glasnow allowed one run on three hits over six innings in a loss to the Pirates on Tuesday.

      Advice: Glasnow allowed a solo home run to Jack Suwinski in the third inning and that was all the Pirates needed to earn a win behind a strong performance from Jared Jones. Glasnow was also great on Tuesday with two walks, nine strikeouts, and 13 whiffs on 40 swings for a 33 percent whiff rate and 35 percent CSW. The right-hander has been healthy all year and dominant on the mound with a 2.93 ERA heading into a tough start against the Yankees this weekend. Rotoworld Tuesday, 6:43 pm
       
    • Excellent again in hard-luck loss
      Glasnow (6-4) was stuck with the loss Tuesday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out nine over six innings.

      Advice: Jack Suwinski's solo home run in the third inning was the lone tally against Glasnow, though it proved to be enough to leave him with the loss in a 1-0 shutout defeat. Still, it was another strong outing from the 30-year-old Glasnow, who now has eight or more strikeouts in seven of his last eight starts. His ERA is down to 2.93 on the year with a 0.90 WHIP and a league-leading 104 strikeouts through 13 starts (80 innings).     • Seth Lugo wears down late against Guardians
      Seth Lugo allowed five runs on six hits in six innings in a no-decision against the Guardians.

      Advice: Lugo started the game with three scoreless innings before allowing three runs in the fourth. However, he settled down and threw two more scoreless innings but the Royals brought him back out for the seventh where he allowed a single and a two-run home runs before being pulled from the game. Lugo posted a 27 percent CSW on the night and induced eight whiffs on 46 swings. He doesn’t miss many bats, but he has been tremendous this season with a 2.16 ERA.     • Max Scherzer (thumb) throws simulated game Tuesday
      Max Scherzer (thumb) threw a two-inning simulated game on Tuesday at Globe Life Field.

      Advice: Scherzer, who has been dealing with a thumb issue during his rehabilitation process from offseason back surgery, threw roughly 40 pitches in his latest throwing session. The 39-year-old righty told reporters afterwards that he hopes to head out soon on another minor league rehab assignment.       Scherzer (back/arm) threw a 40-pitch live batting practice session Tuesday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

      Advice: It's the first time he's faced hitters since he had to be pulled off a rehab assignment in early May following a nerve problem with his throwing arm. Scherzer -- who initially went on the injured list as he recovered from offseason back surgery -- said after Tuesday's session that he's hoping his next step will be to make a rehab start.       Scherzer (back/arm) threw a bullpen session Saturday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: After throwing about 25 pitches during Saturday's session, Scherzer gave a thumbs-up when he arrived at the clubhouse Sunday. Depending on how he recovers and how his conversations with the training staff go, Scherzer could face live batters Monday. Scherzer could then resume a rehab assignment soon thereafter.       Bello did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing four runs on eight hits and three walks over 6.1 innings. He struck out five.

      Advice: Bello cruised through the first four in allowing only two baserunners and finished the sixth inning in line for a quality start and the win. For the first time all year, Bello was called upon to go back out for the seventh, but after recording one out, he allowed the next two runners to reach base prior to being pulled, with both runners eventually coming around to score, adversely impacting his final line. It was only the second time this year that Bello has not been involved in the decision.       Brayan Bello was charged with four runs in 6 1/3 innings Sunday in a no-decision against the Tigers.

      Advice: This one is on Alex Cora, who sent Bello back out for the seventh to face the top of the lineup for a fourth time even though he had given up runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Bello surrendered hits to two of the three batters he faced before being pulled, and Justin Slaten allowed both runners to score afterwards. Bello remains 6-2 with a 4.36 ERA.       Keller (7-3) picked up the win Saturday, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over six innings in an 8-1 victory over the Blue Jays. He struck out eight.

      Advice: The right-hander has been overshadowed by the debuts of Paul Skenes and Jared Jones this season, but Keller has been the Pirates' most dependable starter. He's won five straight starts, posting a 1.34 ERA. 0.92 WHIP and 27:5 K:BB in 33.2 innings over that stretch, and Saturday's quality start was his seventh of the year.
