    • Andrés Muñoz will likely avoid an IL stint
According to The Seattle Times’ Adam Jude, Andrés Muñoz (back) is “determined to pitch through his back strain” and will likely avoid an IL stint.

Advice: The Mariners’ closer has been pitching through the strain since the second game of the season, which may explain why he has had some “off nights” during the 2024 season. However, he has also pitched to a 1.73 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 26 innings, so it hasn’t been impacting him too much. “I’ve been here before,” said Munoz. “I’ve felt like this before, so I know we can manage that and be ready to go. ... I am 100% [with] this team.” Rotoworld Thursday, 10:17 am
    • Still in holding pattern
Munoz (back) said Wednesday that he's feeling better and remains optimistic he'll avoid a stint on the injured list, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The results of the right-hander's MRI are still pending, but Munoz appears confident the flareup of a lower-back issue that caused his removal from Tuesday's appearance is temporary. Munoz revealed Wednesday he had actually been dealing with his back strain since the second game of the season and has been managing it with treatment and other pain-management remedies. Consequently, the collision with the Athletics' Max Schuemann in Tuesday's game wasn't the actual culprit, as Munoz added that he had already been feeling back tightness when warming up in the bullpen that night. Munoz's MRI results could be the ultimate determining factor in whether he avoids an IL stint, with those results likely to be available at some point Thursday. Rotowire.com Thursday, 9:10 am
    • Dazzles in fourth win
Severino (4-2) picked up the win in Wednesday's 9-1 rout of the Nationals, allowing one run on seven hits over eight innings. He struck out four without walking a batter.

Advice: The right-hander took a shutout into the eighth inning before three straight singles to lead off the frame finally got Washington on the board. Severino hadn't even allowed a runner to reach second base prior to that, and he left the mound having thrown an efficient 92 pitches (62 strikes). The quality start was his fifth of the year, and he'll take a 3.25 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 58:27 K:BB through 72 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Marlins. • Mariners still await results of Andrés Muñoz’ MRI
The Mariners are still awaiting the results of the MRI exam on the injured back of right-hander Andrés Muñoz.

Advice: The Mariners have yet to make a roster move prior to Wednesday’s game against the Athletics and Muñoz was with the rest of the M’s relievers in the bullpen during warmups, though he did not throw. If a save situation should arise while Muñoz is sidelined, Ryne Stanek looks like the most likely candidate to fill that role. Rotoworld Wednesday, 4:58 pm
    • Luis Severino cruises to victory over Nationals
Luis Severino cruised to an easy victory over the Nationals on Wednesday afternoon, allowing just one run on seven hits over eight stellar frames.

Advice: The right-hander punched out four batters in the ballgame and didn’t allow a base on balls. All seven of the hits that he allowed in the contest were singles. The lone tally against him came on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Joey Gallo in the eighth inning. Severino generated nine swings and misses on 92 pitches in the contest, posting a CSW of 26 percent. Now 4-2 on the season, Severino will carry a 3.25 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and a 58/27 K/BB ratio (72 innings) into Thursday’s showdown against the Marlins. Rotoworld Wednesday, 4:38 pm

    • Third straight quality start
Mikolas (4-6) earned the win Wednesday over the Astros, allowing two runs on five hits over six innings. He struck out three.

Advice: Mikolas shut out Houston through his first four innings, ultimately allowing both runs on back-to-back solo homers to Yainer Diaz and Trey Cabbage in the fifth. While it's Mikolas' first win since May 12, the veteran right-hander has now delivered quality starts in three straight outings and five of his last seven starts. After a rough start to the year, Mikolas has lowered his ERA to 5.32 with a 1.28 WHIP and 53:14 K:BB across 71 innings. He'll look to build on his recent success in his next start, currently scheduled for early next week at home versus Pittsburgh. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 2:47 pm

    • Miles Mikolas allows two homers in win over Astros
Miles Mikolas allowed two runs over six innings on Wednesday in a win over the Astros.

Advice: Mikolas struck out three and didn’t hand out a free pass, limiting Houston’s injury-depleted lineup, which was missing both Kyle Tucker (shin) and Alex Bregman (hand) to just five hits with homers from Yainer Diaz and Trey Cabbage accounting for the only damage against him in this one. The 35-year-old veteran right-hander will bring an inflated 5.32 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 53/14 K/BB ratio across 71 innings (13 starts) into a home outing on Tuesday against the Pirates. • Secures save No. 6
Sewald earned the save Tuesday against the Giants. He plunked a batter but struck out two and did not allow a hit in the ninth inning.

Advice: Sewald was presented with a save opportunity after Mike Yastrzemski made it a three-run ballgame with his home run in the eighth. He began by hitting Thairo Estrada but faced no threat after that. He has not given up a run since his first appearance of the season and has allowed just three hits total while converting all six save chances. For the year, the 34-year-old boasts an 0.96 ERA, 0.43 WHIP and 10:1 K:BB in 9.1 innings. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:44 am
    • Completes six frames in loss
Harrison dropped to 4-3 on the season in Tuesday's 8-5 loss to the Diamondbacks, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits and no walks while striking out five over six innings.

Advice: Harrison worked a pair of clean innings before the Diamondbacks opened up the third with four consecutive hits, leading to three runs, and then tacked on an unearned run in the fourth. Despite giving up some hard hits early, Harrison was able to buckle down and complete six innings for the first time since May 7. He also managed to not walk a batter for the first time since April 26. The 22-year-old has now given up 20 hits over his last 11 innings, though that also comes with a 10:1 K:BB. Harrison will carry a 4.18 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 65:22 K:BB into his next start, which projects to fall against Houston early next week. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:39 am
