    • Jesús Luzardo strikes out seven, earns win
      Jesús Luzardo completed six innings in the Marlins 8-0 win over the Mets on Friday. He struck out seven, walked none, and allowed seven hits.

      Advice: Luzardo has been fantastic since returning from the IL, striking out 15 in 11 ⅔ innings across two starts putting a rough start to the season behind him. However, be advised his fastball averaged just 94.7 MPH Friday. That was his lowest mark in a single start this season and after he’s already spent time on the shelf with elbow tightness.     • Extends throwing distance
      Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Rodriguez (shoulder) has extended his throwing program out to 60 feet, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

      Advice: Rodriguez had to pause his throwing program in early April due to discomfort in his left shoulder, but the fact that he's extended his throwing distance is an encouraging sign.       Diamondbacks’ skipper Torey Lovullo told reporters on Friday that Eduardo Rodriguez is now throwing at a distance of 60 feet.

      Advice: He has yet to throw off of a mound, but the fact that he has been playing catch and gradually increasing his distance is at least an encouraging sign. He’s going to require a long and slow build up — and several minor league rehab starts — before he’s ready to make his Diamondbacks’ debut.       Kyle Harrison will have his start pushed back until Saturday, with Mason Black taking his place on Friday evening against the Rockies.

      Advice: Giants’ manager Bob Melvin simply wanted to get Harrison and Jordan Hicks an extra day of rest, which is why he inserted Black into the team’s rotation on Friday night instead of in the spot vacated by the injured Keaton Winn (forearm).     • Strong start wasted Wednesday
      Abbott came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Diamondbacks, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out four.

      Advice: A second-inning solo shot by Christian Walker accounted for all the damage off the southpaw, but Brandon Pfaadt was equally effective for Arizona. The quality start was Abbott's third of the season, and he's given up more than two earned runs only once in nine outings to begin the campaign.     • Struggles in short start
      Morton (3-1) took the loss Wednesday versus the Cubs, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks while striking out four over three innings.

      Advice: Morton worked a high pitch count, needing 76 pitches (48 strikes) to get through three frames in his shortest outing of the season. He had pitched into the sixth inning in each of his other seven starts. The 40-year-old's poor start caused his ERA to balloon to 3.52 from 3.14, and he's sporting a 1.15 WHIP and 44:17 K:BB over 46 innings.     • Charlie Morton chased after three innings
      Charlie Morton had a rough start Wednesday allowing three earned runs in just three innings. The Cubs had five hits while Morton walked three more and struck out four.

      Advice: Mike Tauchman homered on the first pitch he saw from Morton and nothing was easy after that. Even the unearned he allowed was on his own poor pick-off attempt wide or Matt Olson at first base.     • Blanks Nats for fourth win
      Crochet (4-4) picked up the win in Wednesday's 2-0 victory over the Nationals, giving up three hits and three walks over five scoreless innings. He struck out six.

      Advice: The left-hander wasn't exactly efficient, tossing only 56 of 89 pitches for strikes, but Crochet lasted long enough to qualify for the win. After a rough stretch in April, the 24-year-old has allowed only three runs over his last three starts (1.59 ERA) with a stellar 24:1 K:BB in 17 innings.       Andrew Abbott yielded one run over seven innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: Abbott was forced to settle for a no-decision after locking horns with opposing starter Brandon Pfaadt in a throwback pitcher’s duel. He allowed just four hits over seven frames with a second-inning homer by Arizona slugger Christian Walker representing the lone tally against him. He finished with four strikeouts and only handed out a pair of free passes.
