    • Alexis Díaz slams door on Guardians in ninth
Alexis Díaz slammed the door on the Guardians in the ninth inning on Saturday, retiring all three hitters that he faced in order to preserve a two-run advantage.

Advice: Díaz made things look easy in this one, getting Steven Kwan on a pop up to shortstop, Kyle Manzardo on a fly ball to right field and Jose Ramirez on a pop up to second base to end it — needing just 13 pitches (nine strikes) to get the job done. The 27-year-old hurler now holds a 5.33 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and a 27/18 K/BB ratio (25 1/3 innings) to go along with 14 saves and one victory on the season. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:07 pm

    • Receives injection for back
Munoz had an MRI and bone scan on his back come back clean, but he received an injection Tuesday to address the lingering soreness, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Advice: The right-hander last pitched Sunday in Kansas City and has made just two appearances in June while battling through the back issue. Munoz hasn't officially been declared unavailable, but the Mariners may try to stay away from him for another day or two as he recovers. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 4:10 pm

    • Andrés Muñoz’s status to be evaluated daily
Andrés Muñoz is still dealing with his sore back, according to manager Scott Servais, and could be day-to-day for the foreseeable future.

Advice: We’re guessing that means Muñoz won’t go tonight after throwing 15 pitches in a scoreless inning Sunday. Ryne Stanek could be the favorite to close tonight. Rotoworld Monday, 4:27 pm

    • Andrés Muñoz gets hold in return from sore back
Andrés Muñoz, who hadn’t pitched since aggravating his back Tuesday, returned to the mound with a scoreless eighth inning Sunday against the Royals.

Advice: Rather than save him for the ninth, the Mariners opted to use Muñoz against the top of the Royals order in the eighth with a two-run lead today. Muñoz did his part, but Michael Baumann went on to give up a game-tying homer in the bottom of the ninth. The Mariners went on to win in the 10th, with Tayler Saucedo collecting a one-out save. Ryne Stanek, typically the primary alternative to Muñoz, went unused for a second straight day after throwing 39 pitches between Thursday and Friday. Rotoworld Sunday, 5:22 pm

    • Back in action
Munoz (back) recorded one strikeout in a perfect eighth inning Sunday against the Royals. He said he "felt weird" out on the mound and was happy with the outing even though he didn't feel like he had his best stuff or command, per Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times.

Advice: He was the first reliever out of the bullpen after George Kirby tossed seven innings of one-run ball. Mike Baumann came on in the ninth inning and gave up two earned runs to blow the save (and eventually pick up the win). It sounds like Munoz will be considered available going forward, although his back might not feel fully healthy. Rotowire.com Sunday, 4:06 pm

    • Not used in save situation
Diaz was not brought in to close out Saturday's 4-3 win over the Cubs.

Advice: Lucas Sims opened the ninth inning before departing with two runners on base, giving way to Lucas Sims, and then Justin Wilson picked up the save. Presumably, Diaz was not used because he threw 42 pitches over the previous two days while working in back-to-back appearances leading up to Saturday's game. Rotowire.com Sunday, 6:11 am

    • Andrés Muñoz available in relief this weekend
Andrés Muñoz (back) is available for Saturday’s game against the Royals.

Advice: Muñoz has been dealing with a back strain that he tweaked during an on-field collision earlier this week and appears ready to return this weekend after getting through a couple bullpen sessions without any issues. Rotoworld Saturday, 11:56 am

    • Throws light bullpen Friday
Munoz (back) threw a light bullpen session before Friday's game against the Royals, per Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times, but the reliever did not appear in the contest.

Advice: Divish had noted there was a possibility Munoz would be available for the first time since exiting Tuesday's game against the Athletics, but it was Ryne Stanek who got the ninth-inning call and ultimately failed to protect a 9-7 lead. With Stanek having appeared in three of the last four games and having thrown 39 pitches in the last two nights, Munoz would certainly be in line for any high-leverage work Saturday if he's healthy enough to handle it. • Escapes with 13th save
Diaz gave up a run on a hit and a walk in the ninth inning Friday, recording his 13th save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Cubs. He struck out one.

Advice: The right-hander made things difficult once again, issuing a free pass with two outs before a Miguel Amaya double brought the tying run to the plate. Diaz was able to strike out Patrick Wisdom to end the game, however. Diaz has walked a batter in four straight appearances, but he's successfully converted six straight save chances. On the season, he carries a rough 5.55 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 27:18 K:BB through 24.1 innings, but for now the Reds are willing to let him work through his control issues. Rotowire.com Saturday, 6:30 am
