Won't play SundayDevers was removed from Saturday's 6-1 loss to the White Sox with left knee soreness and won't play in Sunday's series finale, Sean McAdam of MassLive.com reports. He went 0-for-2 with a walk before exiting.
Advice: Manager Alex Cora said post game that Devers reported soreness in his left knee -- the same knee that forced Devers to miss nearly a week in late April -- which led to Devers' removal in the eighth inning. Cora will play it safe with the stud third baseman, giving him a day off Sunday. The Red Sox have a team day off Monday, so Devers' return to the lineup should come Tuesday against Philadelphia. Advice: Getting the start in right field and batting seventh, the 28-year-old took Nick Nastrini deep in the fifth inning for Boston's only offense, and Dalbec's first long ball in the majors this season. He's flashed plenty of power in the minors -- in his last 140 games for Triple-A Worcester, he's slugged 41 homers -- but that hasn't yet translated to the game's highest level with any consistency. He'll lose playing time, and likely his spot on the 26-man roster, when players like Tyler O'Neill (knee), Wilyer Abreu (ankle) and Masataka Yoshida (thumb) are back in action, as Dalbec's .159/.243/.238 slash line in 28 games for the Red Sox makes a poor case to keep him around. Advice: The third baseman is up to four steals on the season, and all of them have come in his last eight games. Hayes is also batting .323 (10-for-31) over that stretch with a homer, four RBI and six runs, and he seems fully recovered from the back issues that cost him most of May and which may have contributed to his .239/.317/.318 slash line in April. Rafael Devers leaves game with sore knee SaturdayRafael Devers was removed from Saturday’s battle against the White Sox due to soreness in his knee.
Advice: Red Sox’ manager Alex Cora told reporters after the game that, “His knee is bothering him.... hopefully it’s nothing worse than a little bit of soreness.” Devers said after the game that he won’t play on Sunday, but is hoping to return to action on Tuesday. For fantasy managers relying on him for next week, it’d be wise to have a contingency option in place in the event that Devers winds up missing a few games. Advice: It was a quiet afternoon for the Rays as they were shutout. Diaz had the only two hits for Tampa Bay. After wining the batting title in the American League last year, he’s hitting just .245 so far this season. Diaz’ .273 BABIP this year is well below his .320 career BABIP.
