• Takes batting practice
Heyward (back) took batting practice on the field prior to Saturday's game against Atlanta, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: Hewyard was cleared to begin baseball activities Friday, and Saturday marks the first time he has taken batting practice since landing on the injured list April 3. The veteran outfielder still doesn't have a clear return timeline, but he may move onto simulated games if his back is able to hold up after a few rounds of BP. Rotowire.com Today, 3:47 pm

  • Blake Treinen (lung) will be activated on Sunday
Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Saturday that Blake Treinen (lung) will be activated from the injured list on Sunday.

Advice: Roberts also said that he won’t be easing Treinen back into action and that he won’t hesitate to use him in high-leverage situations from the get-go. The 35-year-old right-hander should provide a major boost to the back end of the Dodgers’ bullpen, but it’s unlikely that he takes too many save chances away from Evan Phillips. • Jack Suwinski delivers walk-off hit against Rockies
Jack Suwinski went drove in the winning run with a pinch-hit single as the Pirates won a 1-0 game against the Rockies on Saturday.

Advice: Suwinski stepped in to pinch-hit with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth. It just took one run to walk it off in the scoreless game. He delivered just that, knocking a single to left field to end the game. The 25-year-old outfielder is slashing .172/.259/.273 with two homers, 12 runs scored, and nine RBI across 112 plate appearances. Rotoworld Today, 3:32 pm

  • Austin Gomber goes six scoreless against Pirates
Austin Gomber tossed six scoreless innings with three strikeouts in a no-decision against the Pirates on Saturday.

Advice: Gomber made his best start of the season on Saturday, holding the Pirates scoreless over six innings. He scattered four hits and two walks, striking out three batters. The 30-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 3.79 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and a 25/13 K/BB ratio across 38 innings. He’s in line for a matchup against the Rangers in Colorado on Friday. • Battling back tightness
Leone was removed from Saturday's game against the Cardinals due to lower-back tightness, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Leone entered the game in the eighth inning and was only able to get through one batter -- a five-pitch walk to Nolan Arenado -- before coming out of the game. The team officially labeled Leone as day-to-day, so his injury doesn't seem to be too severe, but the 32-year-old righty may take a few days off before pitching again. Rotowire.com Today, 3:19 pm
  • Fielding grounders, throwing
Manager Torey Lovullo said Saturday that Perdomo (knee) has been fielding live ground balls and has also resumed throwing, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Advice: Perdomo still has yet to resume hitting, as the Diamondbacks are going to take a cautious approach with his rehab just three weeks removed from knee surgery. The 24-year-old infielder remains without a definite return timeline, but Lovullo noted he is encouraged by the progress Perdomo has made so far. Rotowire.com Today, 2:59 pm

  • Resumes running
McCormick (hamstring) began running Saturday and could participate in batting practice within the next few days, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Manager Joe Espada said McCormick has been feeling better since tweaking his hamstring Tuesday, and the team hopes to send him on a minor-league rehab assignment "pretty soon." The 29-year-old outfielder will be eligible to return from the IL on Wednesday, though the Astros haven't indicated whether or not he'll be ready to go by then. Rotowire.com Today, 2:51 pm

  • No structural damage in knee
Wiemer was diagnosed with a strained popliteus muscle in his left knee Saturday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Wiemer added that the results of his MRI revealed no ligament damage. The 25-year-old outfielder fell awkwardly during Friday's win over the Cubs and landed on the injured list Saturday, though it doesn't seem like he will be in line for a long-term IL stint. Rotowire.com Today, 2:31 pm

  • Lance McCullers (elbow) begins mound work Saturday
Lance McCullers Jr. (elbow) threw off of a mound for the first time since undergoing surgery to repair the flexor tendon in his right forearm and also remove a bone spur in his elbow.

Advice: The Astros are going to continue to take every precaution as they’re ramping him up, but the fact that he’s back on the bump is obviously an encouraging sign for the 30-year-old right-hander. Expect that he’ll repeat the process many times before he’s cleared to start facing live hitters. There’s still no clear timetable for a potential return to the big league rotation.
