• Garrett Crochet fans six in victory over Cardinals
Garrett Crochet picked up his second victory of the season on Sunday afternoon, striking out six batters over six innings of one-run baseball against the Cardinals.

Advice: The 24-year-old southpaw scattered just three hits on the afternoon and didn’t walk a batter. The lone blemish on his day came on a solo blast off the bat of Willson Contreras in the fourth inning. Aside from that, he was brilliant. Crochet generated eight swings and misses on 88 pitches on the day — four of those on his cutter — while posting a CSW of 28 percent. Now 2-4 on the season, he’ll carry a 5.31 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and a 53/9 K/BB ratio (40 2/3 innings) into Friday’s showdown against the Guardians. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

  • Willson Contreras goes deep in loss to White Sox
Willson Contreras clubbed his sixth home run of the season on Sunday afternoon, accounting for the entirety of the Cardinals’ offense in a loss to the White Sox.

Advice: The 31-year-old backstop tagged White Sox’ left-hander Garrett Crochet for his 426-foot (111.4 mph EV) solo shot in the fourth inning, tying the game at 1-1. That would be their only scoring in the ballgame. Contreras struck out in each of his other three plate appearances in the contest, finishing the day 1-for-4. On the season, he’s now hitting .275/.398/.539 to go along with six homers, 11 RBI and a pair of stolen bases. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago
  • Matthew Liberatore strikes out five against ChiSox
Matthew Liberatore pitched well in a spot start against the White Sox on Sunday, allowing just one run on three hits over 3 2/3 innings of work.

Advice: The 24-year-old hurler punched out five batters on the afternoon and didn’t walk a batter. For not being stretched out, he worked deeper than expected, throwing 50 pitches (33 strikes) in the ballgame. The lone tally against him came on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bryan Ramos in the second inning. Liberatore got seven whiffs on the afternoon, posting a CSW of 32 percent. It’s unclear if he’ll get another shot next weekend against the Brewers, or if the Cardinals will utilize Zack Thompson to fill Steven Matz’s spot in the rotation going forward. • Could resume throwing soon
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Sunday that Rodriguez (shoulder) will undergo an MRI this week to check his recovery progress, after which he could be cleared to resume a throwing program, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republicreports.

Advice: The left-hander was shut down from throwing in mid-April after he experienced renewed tightness in his shoulder, but Lovullo said the left-hander has recently been "feeling good." Rodriguez will require a lengthy build-up period before embarking on a minor-league rehab assignment, so he's likely at least a month away from making his season debut. Rotowire.com 19 minutes ago
  • DFA'd by Miami
McCaughan was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Sunday.

Advice: McCaughan surrendered eight runs over 4.2 innings during Saturday's 20-4 loss to the Athletics and has now been moved off the Marlins' 40-man roster. He could return to Triple-A Jacksonville if he passes through waivers unclaimed. Rotowire.com 26 minutes ago
  • DFA'd by San Francisco
The Giants designated White for assignment on Sunday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: The right-hander was acquired from the Blue Jays on April 20 and surrendered sever runs over 5.1 frames in three outings for the Giants. White should make his way to Triple-A Sacramento if he passes through waivers unclaimed. Rotowire.com 34 minutes ago

  • Back in majors
The Giants recalled Jefferies from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Jefferies was demoted Thursday but will quickly rejoin the major-league club. The right-hander is taking the bullpen spot of Mitch White, who was designated for assignment. Blake Snell's (thigh) spot in the rotation comes back around Monday against the Phillies, and Jefferies could provide some length. Rotowire.com 39 minutes ago
  • Bailey Falter yields three runs to Rockies
Bailey Falter gave up three runs over 5 1/3 innings Sunday versus the Rockies.

Advice: 11 of the 18 balls in play against Falter were hard hit, so the damage could have been worse here. He’s surrendered eight runs in his last two starts, taking his ERA from 3.33 to 4.34. He’s due to face the Cubs in each of his next two outings, assuming that he doesn’t wind up being replaced by Paul Skenes. Quinn Priester seems to be the more likely candidate to be knocked from the rotation at this point. Rotoworld 55 minutes ago

  • Giants recall Daulton Jefferies from Triple-A
Giants recalled RHP Daulton Jefferies from Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: Jefferies had just been optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, but he’ll return with Tom Murphy (knee) landing on the injured list prior to Sunday’s contest. The 28-year-old hurler has really struggled in two outings for the Giants this season, posting a miserable 17.36 ERA, 3.43 WHIP and a 4/2 K/BB ratio over 4 2/3 innings. He’ll add length in the middle innings for the Giants. Rotoworld Today, 1:28 pm
