• Picks up steal in win
Rocchio went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Thursday's 6-4 win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Rocchio has gone 3-for-12 over his last four contests and continues to see a starting role at shortstop. He's yet to do much with the steady at-bats, slashing .205/.280/.301 with two steals on three attempts, four RBI, 10 runs scored, seven doubles and no home runs through 23 contests. With Gabriel Arias batting .280 in a utility role, it's unclear how much longer Rocchio will go relatively unchallenged for his spot in the lineup. Rotowire.com 31 minutes ago

  • Orelvis Martinez continues mashing at Triple-A
Blue Jays INF prospect Orelvis Martinez launched a three-run homer on Thursday for Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: Martinez has homered seven times in his last nine games and continues to make a compelling case to get the call to Toronto. The 22-year-old slugger is batting .325 (27-for-83) with a 1.060 OPS through 21 games so far. Rotoworld Today, 7:24 pm

  • Expected back Friday
Merrill (groin) is expected to return to the lineup Friday, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Merrill was scratched Thursday but the issue was deemed precautionary. He spoke to reporters following the Padres' loss and said he feels fine and is adjusting to the rigors of the MLB schedule. While Merrill is expected to return Friday, it will be worth confirming he is in the lineup as San Diego opens a series against the Phillies. Rotowire.com Today, 6:46 pm

  • Vaughn Grissom unlikely to return this weekend
Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts on Thursday in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Worcester.

Advice: Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters Thursday that it’s unlikely Grissom will return this weekend, but added that he’s getting close to making his season debut. The 23-year-old infielder figures to take over as Boston’s everyday second baseman upon arrival. Rotoworld Today, 6:17 pm

  • Homers in loss
Smith started at shortstop and went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 4-3 loss to Seattle.

Advice: Smith launched his first homer of the season in the fourth inning, which tied the game momentarily before the Mariners plated two a half-inning later. He got the start at shortstop while primary starter Corey Seager served as DH a day after he left a game with a bruised shin. If Seager is limited to DH for a bit, Smith will be the primary fill-in at short. If Seager is ready for a defensive role, then Smith will go back to sharing third base with Ezequiel Duran. Smith is batting .292/.393/.417 over 84 plate appearances, much better than his previous two MLB seasons would indicate. Rotowire.com Today, 5:59 pm

  • Hitless as DH
Seager started at designated hitter and went 0-for-3 with a walk in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Seager, who was removed from Wednesday's game with a bruised shin, was available a day later for DH duties. It's unclear if he'll be limited to DH for a stretch. If so, Josh Smith will fill in at shortstop. Rotowire.com Today, 5:52 pm

  • Mookie Betts tallies two hits, steals base in win
Mookie Betts went 2-for-3 with his sixth stolen base of the season on Thursday in the Dodgers’ win over the Nationals.

Advice: Betts continues to serve as Los Angeles’ primary offensive catalyst, which is even more unbelievable considering he’s playing shortstop everyday for the first time in his professional career. It’s unreal. The 31-year-old fantasy superstar’s latest multi-hit effort raises his batting average to a sublime .374 (40-for-107) mark to go along with 27 runs scored, six homers, 21 RBI and six steals through 27 games. • Ha-Seong Kim swats two-run homer vs. Rockies
Ha-Seong Kim hit a two-run homer Thursday against the Rockies while going 1-for-4.

Advice: Kim swatted a two-run homer in the third inning, and it’s the fourth homer of the season for the shortstop. The 28-year-old has shown some pop in the early portion of the season, and he’s also added seven stolen bases for good measure. The .240 average leaves a bit to be desired, for those looking for something to complain about. Rotoworld Today, 3:17 pm

  • Trea Turner has three hits in win
Trea Turner went 3-for-5 with a double in a win over the Reds on Thursday.

Advice: Turner hit the ball well on Thursday, with five batted balls that were at least 96.7 mph. It continues a strong start to the season for the shortstop, who’s slashing .336/.388/.477 on the year with two home runs and six steals. As Bryce Harper continues to heat up, he should rack up far more runs scored as well. Rotoworld Today, 2:14 pm
